No, you don't need to say more. What is shown on TV is certainly contributing to the behavior of kids. And every week we hear of another shooting in another school. And it ain't guns causing the trouble--it's the minds of the shooters. If it wasn't guns it would be bombs and, yes, knives, as we know. And where do they see violence regularly, so that it seems commonplace? On TV, of course. Well written story, that I wish people would take to heart.

Really impressive. Great job from the author.
""Relax, Susan, how does little Timmy act at home? What does he do all day?"
"That's the thing, Jill; all he does is watch the new Hip-hop Sesame Street. He simply loves Rappin-Elmo."

This one made me bust out laughing. As middle school teacher I cannot count the number of times in the last five years I have seen real life imitate art. I just hope and pray everyday that none my student decide that 16 and pregnant, a popular and favorite show among some of the girls, is the way to go. Talk about out of touch parents!!!

As a Media literacy specialist,I could say volumes but the image and words say it all.
It is not a vast wasteland but a medium that must be utilized and monitored.
Well written and created,

hahahahahahahaha!
"Don't be silly. If it were bad for kids, they wouldn't show it on television, right?"
Now, I've been out of the parental loop for some 45 years, but please tell me there's no "Hip-hop Sesame Street!
I'm laughing to myself, because I know you'll thing I'm naive to even consider there would be.

You certainly make you point in this 100 word story. I don't watch the kids' programs because I don't have to, but I suspect they're like the schools, trying to indoctrinate the kiddos. Parents probably don't question if it's "Sesame Street" they think it has to be okay. They can't assume that just because it's designated children's programing that it's okay. Excellent dialogue to carry the story. You mean there's a Rappin Elmo? Must have missed that one. judi

You're so welcome. Parents think just because it's on PBS it must be fine. judi

Damn, I'm out of sixes. This was great. I loved the trust in the good old boob tube to steer our kids in the right direction. Great uses of dialogue to convey the story. Very well written.

"Don't be silly. If it were bad for kids, they wouldn't show it on television, right?"
Now there is sarcasm if I have ever read it. This was a very interesting short story line. It Was very compact, but yet very interesting. I enjoyed reading and writing this response for... John

The operative word is the last word ..."Right?" Bullying and acting out at an early age and the reasons for it are subjective to say the least. I should know..in my 2nd marriage I inherited a 6 year old girl doped up by Ridalin 43 years ago. She now has 2 wonderful girls and has been happily married for 15 years. All that time has held down a job and has been in AA for 15 years. Piece was well written and presented and I wish you every success.

No. The message is very clear.
Modern children are so switched on - unfortunately it is to the good and bad.
Life is either so hectic that devices do the babysitting, parents are so stressed they can't cope, or substance abuses make parenting almost non-existent. Technology teaches. This is, of course, not always the case.
Oh! For a return to the loving, caring and supportive family where the two most important gifts were love and the parent's time.
