This must be a true story that you have portrayed in your poem and must have been terribly difficult to write about. I find maybe a bit of revue of sentence structure would be beneficial. A good poem and I wish you luck in your contest.

A very endearing and sad poem. It's trult tragic when children must pay for the sins of their parents. In your situation, it's very sad you were unable to reconcile when your dad was alive. Your testimonial is just that ... empty, with a feeling of emptiness, and that's too bad.
However, the poem is well written and heartfelt.

That was definite a very strong written poem from the heart.
You did an excellent job writing about your childhood
The photo certainly got my attention.
Well done.

I'm so sorry. Nothing really makes up for not having one parent or the other in your life. It's too bad parents don't let their children have access to an absent parent. It's too common. The poem is heart felt and a bit sad, but well done. Rox

This is beautiful, and sad. However you can't blame yourself for hat you should have done and didn't. Somewhere, where your father is, he knows how you feel and you can always talk to him, he will listen. One can always wonder why your mother said those things, but maybe never know. I know it was a terrible to do to you both, but try to find peace within, even with her, it is the best way to move forward and to smile at your father's memory, at least the good ones you know about him. This poem has very good word choices. I suppose when we speak from the heart, always works best.

Thanks for reading and reviewing generously. I appreciate your comments. It was a very long time ago now but I have never openly acknowledged how much the absence of a father affects your life. Dad passed away in 2008 at the age of 85 years and I felt awful because I was a home birth and dad felt a strong connection to me which I never had

Thank you for this tough poem. I wish you had had a dad.... Are you a father yourself? If you are here is your chance to shine as an involved dad. My father was never hugged as a child but he sure hugged us.
Thank you and God bless

Thanks for a generous review.
I wish I'd had the father-daughter bond that my six girls have with their dad. Unfortunately it wasn't to be.
I appreciate your time and comments.
