this was a beautiful, almost magical piece. the questions at the end added a lot power and let the reader to think and get lost in your words again. great piece!!

Wow, I sense a lot more than sorrow in this poem, Sharyn - it's a mixed bag of emotion, and as lovely as it is, with a feeling of peace, too, it's just a bit disturbing, as if there's something below the surface causing more than sadness. Could it be a worry that the dead are lost? That they envy life?
Whatever it is, it makes this poem stand out even more, in my opinion...

thanks Dawn ... I guess there's always an uncertainty in me about death and afterlife, a sense of mystery ... fear of the unknown ... My own mother is alive & kicking, but my dad is not, and I often think about him. More wondering if there's any connection remaining ... and that, of course, gets into religion and spirituality ... how long have you got for THAT one! ???
Bless you for your lovely, sensitive response.

You are so welcome, my friend. You truly have the heart of a poet, and it shows with everything you write.

This is definitely a special day for
reflection and remembrance.
You have expressed your thoughts well and
presented your poem with thought.
Lovely background and an appropriate picture

Yes, many mothers have long since been laid to rest. I don't think they are aware of us anymore - not until we meet again. Great thoughts though.

Who knows, Nicole ... my mother's still alive & kicking, but I like to think about my dad checking in on me every so often from "up there" ... :))

Very well written. heartfelt and profound. I think they do know we miss them.
we visit
our mothers
and stay a while
in the warm gold
of this summer-come-early afternoon
and
I
whisper
wondering ...
can they feel us?
do they love the trees?
and can they hear them breathe?

Wonderful girl and so into them you are. You know they can't feel you but maybe the trees. Sigh.
