A perfect write. So much told in 100 words. I guess he was too stoned to help her anyway. Sad whichever way one looks at it. Good luck in the competition with this excellent entry.

Cheers

Hard-hitting and very well done! Using "rock" for the drug instead of its expected meaning, delving immediately into the character development and succeeding in painting a quick and effective portrait, and ending on a surprising note--all of these work to create a good story.

Very stark, very raw' Emil Zola would call it literary realism. Whatever happened to the American dream? Despite it all, you do hold our interest and you write with a certain restraint, even a hint of humor. Nothing like a slice of life in literary circles. It makes me feel that all civilization is a total failure. -Ekim777

LOL Well, I wouldn't exactly call that a friend. He was basically crashing at someone's play that will no longer be able to pay the rent due to "death by misadventure." Sad and tragic story, but all too common.

Hi, Ed. You're right. Thanks so much. How have you been?

I've been busier than usual, but I'm slowly catching up. (My homeschooling duties with my two boys were particularly taxing this week.)

    Thanks for asking. :)

A true friend is very rare. They stick through thick and thin, they allow you to be yourself. I'd say this dude wasn't what we'd call a friend. very good point made. God loves you and I do too.

No snow, just some rain but these 86 year old bones keeps me inside. Looking forward to spring. I would be so honored if you would read some of my pieces. This is all new to me. As soon as the next printing of my book is done and out on amazon.com I will make it available on this site. It took me ten years and a river of tears to write. I lived in 32 years of abuse. I couldn't leave because my husband promised to hunt me and the children down and kill us like a mad dog. Three years into our marriage his father shot his mother's head off and got away with it. It is now my past and I'm out to fight domestic violence for men, women and children. God loves you and I do too.

I will try to read it but it will have to be short bits at a time. These 86 year old eyes have macular degeneration and they fail me sometimes in letting me read as much as I would like. You are most kind. No one should be abused. I had to protect my children all of their lives. He beat my six year old severely while I was at work. He sent the babysitter home so he could do it before I got home. The child was in bed when I got home. I got his dad off for work and went to get him up for school. He didn't respond as he should, he started crying. I found his little legs, hips and back stuck to the sheet from dried blood. It was good that his dad wasn't there at that moment. I did go buy a gun and told him if he ever did such a thing to any of the children again I would kill him and I meant it. He beat my youngest son when he was 17. I kept my daughter that arrived 12 years after the boys with me at all times. He laughed at me when I told him I'd kill him. I told him top go ahead and laugh but he would have to sleep sometime and when he did he was a dead man. After that I took the beatings for the kids. He knew I would kill him. He was a coward, vicious coward. He's dead and I'm not sorry. We're all free. God loves you and I do too.

How did he die, Evelyn? Bob
reply by Evelyn Fort Stewart on 01-Mar-2013
He had started smoking at 7 and died with emphysema. The lady he married had mysteriously had four husbands die. She was putting arsenic in their food saying it was to help their heart condition. I have no idea how the lady got away with what she did. She had been a long time mistress. He sold her everything we had worked together for for $1. Then he died shortly. He stalked me for 10 years after we were divorced. He would stand out in the dark woods where he couldn't be seen and throw little pebbles at the trailer I lived in so I would know i was in danger because he was out there. The day he died and I got word I threw up my hands and thanked God it was truly over. It was the first night in 42 years that I had slept without fear. Thank you for being a friend. God loves you and so do I.

You successfully told the story using those words. Congratulations. I'm not sure that there's much more you could have done, but this piece it's just so depressing that it's hard to give it five stars.

So....lets see. The actual writing was fine because it worked....it was real or seemingly. Yet you graded me on how you feel afdter reading it???? Thankyou.

I'm not sure that was totally fair. But, it was honest

Good job! This was interesting and you did a good job using the key words. The illustration completed this work as a good visual. It's a sad ending to the friendship.
