First of all, Congratulations on the win friend :) It is a great little poem, full of powerful emotions, and it is true, from the depths of despair one can rise like the phoenix and be reborn... live again. A worthy winner :)

That's what we do, Hitcher, isn't it? Amazingly resilient sometimes! :) S

Wow what a wonderful, well-written piece of vividly descriptive poetry. The imagery throughout this is awesome, for example,"to crack the classic chandelier." Well done.

Dear Sharon,
A really incredible poem thattook me from the depths to the hights. Both the dark imagery and inspiring imagery were done perfectly. I think this is one of your best. Congrats on the well-deserved win--Ted

I really enjoyed the positive aspect of this poem and how one thing ...in this case a joyful note in a song, can change one's perspective. I haven't read the other submissions for this contest but can see why this would be a winner as far as flow and structure. My only critic is a personal taste sort of critic ....simple works better for me and overly flowery language sometimes muddles the emotion of a piece for me. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your win!

thanks so much my dear - this one is meant to be read aloud - i.e. performed - so the alliteratation/ assonance etc will have much more impact if you do that. But yes, I do tend to weave longer poems - somehow they just come out that way! :0) Sharyn

This is a fantastic entry for this contest. You had my vote ;)
Love the rythm of your well constructed free style and the occasional rhymes really enhance that rhythm.
Congratulations! - Cally

It is funny what helps lift people's spirits. I was depressed once and I remember hearing my two college aged neighbors fighting about who ate the last of the peanut butter. I don't know why it made me start to laugh but it did. Yours in much more charming and beautiful but whatever works. Nice job.

aaah, then you know exactly what I'm talking about GW - things somehow get put into perspective, yes? Now, if we can only just choose to STAY in that space!!!
    Bless you,

Wonderfully written. Despair turning to Hope.
A concept we can all use sometime in our
own lives. This is a wonderful time of year
filled with hope and love. You did a fantastic
job on this poem.

This work has reached the exceptional level

now I see a strand of warm
golds, high skies, treasured birds
of white grace, and blues
so deep and luscious pleasured
I can plunge my hands in, never measured,
and come out overflowing
in all five senses

feel again

heal again

all because

of
one
pure
note
sung
in
exultation

the six will speak for itself, Sharyn - no wonder
it was a winner, my friend.

Congratulation.

Margaret

Wow, I love the way you developed this from the powerful methaphor of the fist two lines, (all cried out in this land of plenty) to the contrast of being exulted at the end.
