Excellent poem od horror. You held my attention to the end. My Dad used to tell me stories like that also. The words flow nicely. Shows deep thinking.

oh this is MASTERFUL!!! YOU DESERVE TO WIN THIS COMPETITION HANDS DOWN!! A wonderful scary telling with impeccable rhyme - I'd LOVE to read this aloud to kids round the fire!!! If I had a '6' to give, you'd have it, believe me!!!

Thanks for the enthusiastic review and the virtual Six. Not holding my breath about the contest - I never win these ones - starting to think the invisible committee don't like me - and they do attract some quality entries. Both Adewpearl and Humpwhistle have good entries in and there may be more before deadline is reached...

I love this poem. It was interesting from beginning to end. The descriptive words you used made for a great visual. The twist at the end made it even better. Yhanks for sharing.

That's so crazy it must be true! It's easy to imagine the kids sneaking out. Then, on a dare and the one boy, scared to death, nails his coat to the floor and thinks the ghost has him. This is a great entry for the contest.

Thanks, Cindy. My father always swore he was there... I have popped him into the poem as Len.

Your "Share a Story in a Poem" Poem, The Coat-Tail Ghost, is a hoot! I got a real laugh out this one!!! I love the ending!!! Your poem has a really good rhyming scheme and the cadence is nice and smooth. The story is really good. I felt like I was there listening too and I could imagine exactly what was being said! What year and where was this Dan Carew from?

Thank you for the great review and the six stars - much appreciated.
My father's (true?) story involved the nail in the coat, but not the ghost - I just made him up...

The six stars is for the giggle I got and the excellent telling of a story. I had a good giggle at the little fellow almost crying at the idea of a life without Facebook.
Look forward to seeing more of your work

I shall definitely try to make you giggle again in the future.
If you are brave enough to venture into my portfolio, other story poems with a giggle may be found - Batroom Incident, Country Justice, alternative ending to Smiler Jack, Pardon My French and Pardon My Latin....

This is a delightful poem and story. Your words paint the picture well, accented by the black background and the picture of the church on the hill. I could almost feel the chill of the young lad as he met the dare.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
