I remember being 5 like it was yesterday. Pure happiness; something I never take for granted. We loved getting Miss Shap's back up! HA!! Writing this brought back a lot of those memories. Thanks for the read, Ray and your great review. :-)) Sue

When my daughter was younger (about 15 years ago), we always acted silly together. I used to sing to her that song "I'm a Toys 'r Us Kid". She loved me acting like a kid around her. Awwwww....I miss my girls being babies! boo-hoo! Thanks so much for your "inner child" review. Bet you still are a Toys 'r Us Kid! Ha! Sue :-))

I enjoyed reading your poem so much, it was fun. It took me back to my childhood days. The words rhymed so well and it was very easy to read. Were you this first grader about 10 years ago?

No, not 10 years ago, But maybe around 15. HA!!! I am so glad I had hopscotch and playing "it" and "kick the can" and outdoors all day long. Better than being "Nintendo kids"!!! Great memories. Thanks very much for your review. And very kind compliments. :-)) Sue

You could have been my best friend next door when I was a kid. You described a neighborhood similar to mine. Hopscotch and roller skating. We had those keys for our skates. Melanie did a song. Boy are you bringing back the memories. Good read. joan marie

Yeah! Used to keep the key around the neck. Had to tighten those things up all the time. Wow! Imagine that. I can hear them clicking along now. Lots of great memories, yes. Thanks so much for your review, Joan. :-)) Sue

I used to wear my saddle shoes to roller skate in. Remember those and penny loafers? jm

OMG!! I haven't heard that name saddle shoes for so long I'd forgotten it! LOL!!!!
You're a scream. Yes! And penny loafers. Let's just say we only had our saddle shoes, our penny loafers and some tennis shoes (if we were lucky). And then, up high on the top of the closet were a beautiful pair of black patent shoes ONLY for church! HA! Now, all the kids have 20 pairs of shoes.
Thanks for the memories!

Now watch how you walk or you'll scuff 'em up. And mom will get cross!

Ah... all those memories! I think you and I are fairly close in age (though I may be a bit older). This brought back many wonderful memories for me... even including the one cranky neighbor.
Thanks for sharing,
Good luck in the contest...

Then, no wonder we can both relate to those same things. Don't forget the roller skate key around the neck!

What a great poem! Easy to read and full of emotion the lines and stanzas all flow nicely. It really took me back to my own childhood while at the same time making me look forward to the fall when my youngest child will begin Kindergarten.

I really thought this was very sweet. Your rhymes worked well and I liked that you added a bit of sibling rivalry at the end. I have a five year old and only wish she was as happy as that. You must be doing something very right!

I enjoyed reading this 'childish' poem....very good. This is a lovely portrait of childhood - bits of it are quite familiar! I loved my book of Aesop's fables too! Good luck with the contest. :)

Jazh, you're always the first one on my board to review! I'm feeling pure guilt of not getting over to read your story! I have been writing up a helluva storm. And trying to keep up with reviewing everyone else, and responses. I've never been this far behind before. Just wrote 2 yesterday and 2 more today. I'm not even going to say how many hours I've been on here today. Too embarrassing! HA! Thanks so much for your great review. Warmest regards, Sue

lol It's the middle of the day here - prime reading time for me! Don't worry about my book - I have two more chapters to go, then I will tidy it all up. Then you can read it when you have time. :)
