Ciao !
I love the words slumber and lumber, verbs that describe well a bear's winter sleep and its gait.
In Spring brown bears eat more winter carrion, root, bark, and budding flowers.
At the end of Summer and all of autumn brown bears hunt salmon to fatten up so when they go to sleep for three months (Oct, Nov, Dec) they feed on the fat they gained. They also eat a big amount of berries.
The salmon instead are returning home against the current ..jumping helps them pass over obstacles like a small dam, rocks, debris in the stream etc...
... she wants to spawn/ release or deposit her eggs that the male then fertilizes. The salmons then died, leaving nutrients in the water, they feed other animals..... nothing goes to waste.
Bears usually eat just the skin, brain, and eggs of the salmon which are the fattest parts.
PS. forgive me if I rattle on but I love to watch BBC National Geographic (wink)

Tempeste,
Thank you for the great review. You rattle on all you want to. You can educate as we go. I don't have cable or satellite so everything I watch is on a stream. You go girl.

I like the photo. I like that you like bears.
I like that the winter season supports their life journey?

Yes, they are pretty clever, better at catching fish than me, but you have a great post that speaks of these bears who seem to know when the salmon are returning home to spawn, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Roy,
Thank you for the great review. Yes, God created all these creatures to use their wits to get food. The bear is quite clever and will succeed in getting food.
In some of our national and state parks they have bear boxes, so if you are tent camping you have some place to lock your food up at night. I would not want to get woken up by a bear foraging for food.

Charles,
Thank you for the great review. Mr. bear patiently waits and they jump in his mouth. Of course he has to sit in that cold stream.

Hello Cecilia.
I think you have accurately depicted the thoughts and behaviors of a brown bear in its natural environment. You have detailed both his intentions and his achievements. He is a majestic creature, and he knows how to succeed in his own world. He's quite good at it.

This is a good poem full of colorful imagery and action. Your rhyming is good and carries one bear's story. The photo images support your words well. Best wishes to you, Alex

Love it, your words tell of the wild, the basis of life, eat, eat, eat then sleep. Get up and do it again, winter will come. some may not see tomorrow. All doors open and close. Life is the same.

I like this style of poetry because it deals with the problems, we are facing up North with the wetlands and nature in general. Over population is forcing nature out.

Don,
Thank you for the great review. You know it's happening all over the place. When we moved here six years ago it was nothing bu farmland. Now there's housing all over the place pushing the wildlife into the neighborhoods.

Great write about a bear, my grandson went hunting for a bear and got one it was 350 pounds mind you he just received a gun for his 12th birthday when he shot the bear. It took his dad to get a front-end loader to move the bear. Super write. Enjoyed reading it at least yours got a full belly!

Debbie,
Thank you for the wonderful review. I appreciate you. What did your grandson do with the bear?
-
They had him skinned and tanned the hide and processed the meat. He was so proud that for Christmas he gave grandpa a picture of him with his bear holding the gun grandpa gave him. Grandpa cried of joy when he opened the present.
-
Ooh, that is so sweet of him. Your husband is a big softy isn't he. Do you eat bear?
-
No grandson lives in Tennessee, so I don't see him often. He comes up for Christmas. one chistmas he got the gun the next year we got to see the bear
-
Wow. I would think shooting a bear would be scary to shoot. You don't really get more than one shot before it charges.
-
Well when you live where they live you get to know how they live and where to shoot them. The story he told was fascinating to listen to. And of course he wasn't a bit scared, hie said Dad was more, lol
-
So young. He's 10 foot tall and bullet proof.
