Roy, This is a very well written poem about the scars some children face having. I was on of those children. Only by the grace and mercy of God did I over come and now I work for my Lord. Great words and great imagery. Thank you for always sharing the truth with us! May God bless you and Elaine and your family always! Teri

Those harsh words come back to haunt us as adults, even though the bruises have healed. I read somewhere one may forget the words someone used, but you'll never forget how that person made you feel. I think we should remember that. Thank you for sharing the wonderful poem and message.

Great poem, Roy. I cry for the children of today. They are seeped in technology and stripped of any real life fun and interactions. They grow up knowing no different. We owe them so much more. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Roy! A cautionary word in your poem for all. As a minister of the gospel of Christ, I can assure you this is true. I've seen the destruction all my life. There's no limit to the damage it can do. Only in Christ is it averted and fixable.
Children are the most tender and vulnerable. I think that's why Jesus said a terrible judgment is reserved for anyone who would do harm to a child, or to their faith. He said it would be worse than having a millstone tied to them and cast into the deep.

Hopefully many will turn now from harming a child, whether they are inside the womb or outside.
Sending you my best today as always.

I always wonder how a parent goes from the nurturing of their child when it is born to the berating and hurtful treatment as they grow? Where did they lose that special love, that bond? My daughter declares she loves her children more than anything in the world, but then berates them when she is mad with words worse than a trucker's mouth. It's so sad.

There is no deeper cut than one that goes to the bone. Children are abused in so many ways now, and I consider ignoring children to also be abuse. I see parents on their phones while their children sit ignored all the time. It breaks my heart.

In the third stanza you use the word "wealth" at the end of the first two lines, which is slightly off-putting (for me). Could one line end with "health"?

Thanks for sharing, Roy.

You are exactly right. Youth is a tough time to begin with. Mistakes are made, we don't truly know who we are and we are trusting. Giving grace to ourselves and others is the key. Great poem. Gretchen

This touches me deeply. Penetrates to my soul. Children are our future, will have to take care of us. A child's hug is one of the best things that can happen to you. Nothing even comes close.

Roy,

This is a great poem, if not a sad one. I grew up in a home where mother always blamed stuff on me and her words were harsh. One thing she said that I will never forget is this, "You were named after your father French whore" That was one among many degrading things she said to me. I suffered from self-esteem issues for a better part of my life because of her harsh words.

Hi Roy,
This poem reminds us that kindness and understanding are needed to move a child forward with strong self assurance. Bulling, name calling and undermining a child scars for life and needs to stop. It can lead to the blood you mention because of suicide.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a wonderful rest of the day and weekend.
Joan
