This is a great tribute you have crafted for your great-grandfather. I loved that he resisted being sold and carved a name for himself in the worst times imaginable in history. Thank you for sharing, my friend.
God bless,
Steve

Thank you my brother. I am indeed proud of him and his accomplishments as well as being proud to know that I am one of his great grandsons.

The rhyming lines here are like a trail back in time to these moments of your ancestor. We sort of feel that connection back to him, from you to him. You should write a novel about him. I think it would make a good story. But it's really more of a novel than a poem. estory

I would love to do that, unfortunately I lack sufficient details to make it a novel of any quality. In short I do not know enough about him. I have had to rely on stories told to me by people who are now all deceased.

I do like this poem. It has good subject matter. Your rhymes are good, But I just can't put my finger on what I feel is missing. I think it may be the meter, ya know? It doesn't flow as smoothly as I think it can, you might try counting syllables and match them up so it has more rhythm? That's my opinion. I can tell he meant a lot to you. You are proud!

This was so interesting. I love genealogy. Hearing about families and their roots are cool. I have researched my own family and had some eye opening discoveries. Thank you for sharing. Gretchen

Nolan,
This poem is a treasure. A beautiful account of your ancestry. Something to share and be proud of.
I wish I knew my ancestors as well:
They came from Italy, and my great-grandfather was a curmudgeon and family despot. That's all I know about him. Yours is a wonderful true-story,
Best wishes,

Cindy

Thank you. I am sorry about your grandfather. The sad truth is that every family has at least one member that proves to be a disappointment.

It's nice to be able to look back and be proud of someone in our heritage. Fifteen children is a giant feat in itself, or at least we know what he did in his spare time. LOL. I know I'm not supposed to laugh at my own jokes, but sometimes I get carried away. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I fathered two and after that I got a vascetomy. A son and a daughter and I was done. Plus, I already had a step daughter so three kids was my limit for sure. Thank you for your thoughts on my poem, I appreciate you my friend.

I never wanted more than two, but I'm a slow learner. So, after the fourth, when I figured out what was causing them, I stopped. :-) I appreciate you too, my friend!

A Great tribute to your Grandfather and your ancestor. Well done tribute, and family history. Like how you weave these stories together in your poem like the images as well.

What a fine and loving tribute to a man who left a legacy of strength, character, goodness, tenacity and an indomitable spirit. No wonder you're so special, Nomi; traits like that in a bloodline remain strong and ferocious! Thank you for sharing this beautiful story of a man who helped to make you who you are. xoxo
