You are preaching to the choir mister. I am #8 and#9. I really hate "thanks" all by itself very often without adding their name. Rude! First we have to get them to read this stuff in the first place. :-) Karen

Thank You!
Just kidding. I get your point but my reviewing in depth critique to writer's writings would be asking a legitimate teacher to pick up trash or for a trash collector to teach a class, so when I review I keep it short and sweet, save for now, and express my enjoyment and maybe point out a misspelled word or so. No, that?s the kind of humor I?ve come to expect.
But seriously, thanks for reading and sharing, Yom.
Always appreciate your responses.

This is an interesting piece. There is one writer on this site who I've found never even responds to reviews, not even with a thanks or a thank you so I have been wondering if I should even bother reviewing their work again. I'm always incredibly grateful to people who leave a detailed review of my work and make sure I thank them properly. A well written addition to this book.

Well said, John! I'm with you all the way on this one. It annoys me too when you go to the trouble of pointing out errors in particular (which can take significant time) and then get a simple 'thank you' back so you're left wondering whether they're grateful for that input or simply offended by it. Being in a virtual world is difficult enough and, given that this is a literary site, one would expect that this kind of respect is common practice. As for your post, as ever, it's a pleasure to read. It's thoughtful, respectful and a great contribution to a site which, sadly, seems to leave everything up to the members to clarify and endorse. My own tiny, tiny beef is (4th line up) 'their' instead of 'there':)) Thank you so much, John. Best wishes Debbie

Just kidding? I for one appreciate the fact how someone t as kes the time to point out these spags in the text.
Anyway, sorry for the late response. I had nearly forty reviews from this post. The most I ever received! And I found each one special and wanted to take my time to respond.
I always appreciate hearing from you, Debbie as well as reading your posts. You are one of the premier writers on this site besides a wonderful person and friend.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Good morning John,
I find it so so interesting to read your great thoughts this morning.
Why is it interesting? ... Well, just yesterday I was telling my husband that I have decided to stop reviewing several writers no matter how much they pay out.
Why???
Well, I review ever single post in my Fan messages and many more in the read section or under Featured,
Many respond with just thank you... I have learned to just say, "you are welcome" ...because..hey, why waste my time ...
MORE... and then many never ever review my work...
SO... now I have decided to give each one that has not reviewed my work or just left a brief thank you to my review, one more chance.. If I do not hear from them I am going to delete them from my Fan list...
All of my member dollars come from reviewing.
I know of many that buy their member dollar.
And, one more thing, I really go out of my way to edit, make suggestions, etc. if need be... Only a few have added me to the reviewing list...So there is no way I can be ranked higher...It appears you are #25 as an active reviewer..not sure how one moves up?
On another note... I decided awhile back not to enter the blind contest, so I have only been entering the committee contests. And, of course never win... I notice that the same group always seem to win... pretty frustrating.
So this year I am going to start entering contest around the world and seeing how that goes..
I am on another site where I get reviews and no contests ...
The sad thing on Fan Story is that we are not allowed to say to another writer " Hey I wrote, blah blah blah a year ago and I think you might like it"
So much of our older writing gets lost... New Fan Story members never get to see what we wrote in the past unless they go into our portfolio...but why would they?

I think you're right, John. Respect is the cornerstone. How that looks to each person may be a little different, and that's sometimes where issues may arise, but I really like the advice of connecting with your reviewers and appreciating their time. I hope I do this sufficiently - I'll be keeping an eye on myself and make sure I don't get lazy about it! :)

This is a nice tribute to reviewers. Sadly, a small few reviewers do not show the same courtesy, therefore I am pleased you are giving tribute to the respectful, supportive and caring reviewers on here. As a diligent reviewer, I thank you.

I appreciate you and your time.

You speak for many! Nothing is more aggravating than a three paragraph comprehensive review being flicked away with a cursory "Thanks for reading.". -- except , of course, those who never reply at all!
I mentioned in my review of Wendy's equally comprehensive work that cut and paste reviews are never acceptable. I believe they are also against the rules!
I do want to stress that there ate times when a cut and paste reply seems appropriate.
If one is ill, dealing with a family crisis, unable to spend more than a few moments on FS...A cut and paste seems very helpful!
I appreciate a respectful, " Forgive my cut and paste, I am incapacitated but wanted you to know I've read your review and appreciate your time!"
A fairly new issue I've noticed in the past few months are the "A I" generated reviews.
They are easy to spot. They read like a PhD dissertation and there are plenty of "A I" filters on the web to verify.
One newbie posted seven in one day...
All "scanned" as 85% or more auto generated.
(Well, he did include the author's name and title of the post.)
I don't know the solution... but I forwarded those to Tom.
Those are few and far between, at this juncture.
If it sounds "generated" I encourage all to scan that person's reviews...
Thanks, as always, for smart, witty, honest opinions that benefit all of us...newbie or not!

Karenina,
Sorry for such a late response. I?ve gotten 35 reviews to this post which may be the most I?ve ever gotten. After working a 12 hour day, I?m beat.
Thank you for reading and sharing some of your views and thoughts with me.
I always appreciate when you stop by.

Congrats on so many reviews! This makes it obvious many resonated with your points!
Comment from Gypsy Blue Rose
Reviewing is a big part of fanstory's success and what makes it stand out among writer sites. In my opinion, fanstory is the best. Also, adding graphic art to my posts is very important to me, I checked other sites but non compares to our site.
I agree, we should be respectful to each other.
