Excellent writing, with an engaging hook, an interesting and thought-provoking conversation with your husband, and a thoughtful conclusion which resonates well. It expresses gratitude and thankfulness but is honest and realistic, and offers a challenge to each of us against complacency or self-satisfaction which easily merges into pride. Thank you for sharing, and very best wishes for the contest.

A thought-provoking piece. I like the idea of the Self Check list. I love the Burns quote, too - one of my favourites.
Like you, I'm satisfied with being a little unsatisfied!

I think if every human was satisfied we would not move forward. We would not seek answers look for cures. We wouldn't do any of that stuff. So it's probably good that we're not always satisfied. I find this to be A. I've done a really good job with it grammatically. Perfect and it answers and asks some really relevant questions. So I find it to be I fine submission and I wish you best!

This is something to live by, Ann. As you do, I believe what pulls us to the next level in life is what we recognize within ourselves as people.
If it's broken, fix it. If it isn't, leave it alone. I think too often, we try to fix what isn't broken. I believe it's okay to be satisfied with being unsatisfied.

Hello, Ann!
The sociologist, Charles Horton Cooley, creator of "The Looking Glass Theory," is smiling; of that I am sure. His social-psychological theory theorizes that all individuals "see" three images in a looking glass:
1. Their physical self.
2. What others see.
3. What they hope others see.
Well, I for one, see a wonderful "work in progress" expressed exceptionally well in your equally exceptional essay.
The following paragraph really resonated with me:
I pulled out my compassion and tolerance compass and found it slightly off north. There was too much elbow room between honesty and integrity. I discovered that forgiveness - including forgiveness of myself- had slid a little to the right. It was evident that too much of the time originally allotted to the 'thank you' jurisdiction had been claimed by the 'I want' department. Sometimes the opportunities to be kind were ignored and compassion was set aside for expediency.
Not only does the above express an honest evaluation of self, but it is also an example of exceptional writing.
Much enjoyed, Ann...
Carry on your journey!

Any 6 star rating is awesome, but one from a writer I so admire is mind-blowing. Thank you so very much. I am grateful and inspired to try harder. Merry Christmas. ann

What an excellent story! I like the way you wrote this so engagingly, first by noting the challenge of the contest, then by skilfully inviting the reader into your conversation with your husband and, finally, setting about the challenge yourself. It made this into a very readable prose in which your conclusions were also wise and well-considered. Not to mention satisfied with being a work in progress. I don't think the contest could ask for anything more. So well done and good luck! Debbie

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on satisfaction with us.
I totally agree of the different elements of satisfaction. I especially liked your ending thoughts. I don't think any of us are ever totally satisfied due to just the process you mention. We are all evolving daily and never will be done on this side of the veil. It's a daily process for sure. Thanks for sharing this thought provoking message with.

I like this idea of a self-check to see how we're standing up to our goals, and which ones still need attention. Thanks to your husband for teaching you this, and to you for sharing it with us. Nice written. Best wishes in the contest. Carol

Six stars!! I am so grateful and appreciate. Glad you enjoyed my post. Self-checks can sometimes be fun when one is sitting on the patio, watching the birds and thinking! Merry Christmas. ann

I too, have been heavily blessed, and am glad to read about your self check method. I've accomplished career, family and financial goals. But you have provided us with additional goals to consider to enable us to determine satisfaction on a greater lever. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Best wishes in the contest.
