How memorable. This is a great tribute to life in general.
One minor catch:
The circuses,zoos and the fairs
(Space)
Great stuff. Good luck in your competition. D

I thoroughly enjoyed this read! What a canny link between the rocking implements happening at both ends of life. I enjoyed your rhyming and metre and I can imagine grandparents reading this with delight to their grandkids as they sit at the foot of the rocking chair on the verandah.

This is a beautifully written, no rules contest enjoyed reading it, and it comes up in my mind. Many different things have happened in my life because I am now 85 years old. Keep writing and keep sharing with us. Patricia

I really like the rhyme scheme and meter that you have chosen, Barry. Verry clever idea of comparing the rocking horse with the rocking chair. You should do well in the contest.

Thanks Paul for your review. Yes, I am certainly more towards the rocking chair now than the rocking horse lol. Hope you are well.

More rocking horse than rocking chair as it happens with most of your poem dedicated to the joys of the younger years. Nice rhyme and meter which, oddly enough, may be a negative in this contest where you are allowed to break the rules and instead you have followed a self-imposed pattern.
Good luck.

Steve,
Thanks for your review. Yes, could have picked the wrong contest for this poem but will see how we go. I am certainly more a rocking chair sort of guy now. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Lovely connection between old age and the innocence of a child. Beautiful rhyming here, unforced and natural and the rhythm is lilting and appropriate for nostalgia. Well done and good luck in the contest.
