I'm so sorry to hear that your foster son is still critically ill, Wendy. Of course it's impossible to switch on a happy face, especially when you're in such despair and surrounded by people who just want to pretend they're happy when they probably aren't either. I hope you managed to slip out of the party in good time. A great entry for the contest and I wish you luck! Debbie

Thanks so much for your caring words and also for the good wishes. The party is tonight but I declined the invite knowing I would not manage well to "wear a mask" of happiness.

There's so much depth to this story: it's cleverly written; well written; insightful; emotional; from the heart, and more. It's clear why you are the #1 ranked author on FS. I loved everything about it, and it would be hard to find a better entry in the contest. Best of luck.

We fostered him when he was a boy. He?s now in a group home but we?ve always maintained contact, and count him as part of the family. I am his legal guardian as both his parents have died.

"You would cry too, if it happened to you."
Not going to a party is no sin, but of course you knew that.
I'm sorry about the situation with your foster son. I know how tough it must be.

We must be of the same vintage re that song. Yes, it?s tough at present. We?ll see what next week brings. Ultimately he?s in God?s loving care. Many thanks for reviewing.
