This poem stacks up against the competition very nicely. It gets my vote. Nice idea with the color scheme. The repetition in the colored lines is quite effective.

Your contest entry was awesome, Mystery Author. I loved
the color scheme, the image, and the informative way you
expressed your thoughts and feelings on freedom and being
happy. Great job with the rhymes, the smooth flow, and the
message. You gave readers great examples from your
personal life, your family, our country, and what lies ahead.
Yes, freedom comes with a cost, but is so worth it for all
the reasons you mentioned. I liked the way the last line of
each verse was similar and tied up what the verse said.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

Well said in poetry. Yes, we who have served have earned the right to admire your contest entry. Because we are free. Except the cost of buying membership pumps. LOL.

We all have played a part in our freedom. We who faced perils of life, had loved ones at home keeping the ammunition flowing.

Hi
This poem is a heartfelt patriotic post honoring and being thankful for our continued freedom. I shows your love for your family, friends and country. I like the red, white and blue color scheme.
And also remembers all those who fight for our way of life.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a Happy Fourth of July.

Thanks so much Joan for your kind comments for my happy and free poem. When I was a girl, I remember how Russia ruled their country so strictly that they weren't even allowed to have Bibles in their home. I never forgot how strict they were and how awful communism is so I never take my freedom for granite. So thanks again my dear friend.

You're welcome. I can see why freedom is so dear to you.

This poem, Happy and Free, presented with eight AABB-rhymed quatrains, give timely thanks for all the men and women and the very existence of a country where freedom is the birthright of everyone here.

Very well said. Yes, we in the Western world are still blessed with our freedom. Something we have to fight for and maintain. let's hope our children and grandchildren will be able to say the same. Good luck. Ulla :)))

Hi Ulla, I know you are from Denmark originally and that you are probably younger than me, but when I was a girl, I remember how Russia ruled their country so harshly and I never forgot how strict they were and how awful communism seemed. So I never take my freedom for granite. So thanks again my dear friend.

I agree; freedom is a VERY happy word. But I think, like you assert here, that it isn't appreciated nearly enough. It's taken SOO very much for granted, and I guess that's because so much time has passed since people here weren't free.
You've touched on so many aspect of freedom, and you've topped off your strong and excellent words with a picture that is exactly right. Good luck in the contest.

Mystery poetess, I love your patriotic poem! These are my sentiments exactly. I grew up in a time of standing for the pledge and singing the national anthem. I was taught to respect the great freedoms afforded to us in the constitution. No freedom is kept without cost. I thank the Lord, too, hoping we stay that way.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally :)) xoxo's

Even in a free country, good people are suppressed, sadly enough.
You've reminded us in this poem to be thankful for what we CAN do without being censored or jailed for having an opinion other than our government's beliefs.
Things are not what they used to be back in the day; the sad reality is our kids will remember this era instead of an era of what the world should be. Best, JohnC

Unfortunately John, you are right. That is why I wrote that it wasn't the same. And that this poem was not the place to blame. But boy oh boy, if I ever let lose. Lol... thanks so much for your kind comments my dear friend.
