Thank you for this lovely tribute for the second Memorial Day Contest. A personal one with each family member included from WWI to presemt day. I'm glad you're a woman who appreciates them and those like them. Too many have been disrespected, disenfranchised, and grossly neglected. As a free people, we owe them so much.
Thank you for this, and please thank your nephew for his service to our country. I take it he's doing well and continues to serve his fellow soldiers and is an all around great guy. God bless y'all.
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes for the upcoming vote.

What a tribute you pay to the men in your family who have served our country so honorably. It is sad that every generation has faceed and participated in these conflicts. Your poem has good rhyming and flow. A great contest submission.

This is a very good poem. It rhymes well, it has a good flow, and it has a touching message. Please send my thanks and gratitude to those that have fought for us to be able to live free. My father and father-in-law both served in the Army in Vietnam. My brother-in-law served some time in the Army, also, and my brother (who is now retired) was career Navy. Thanks for sharing your loving words with us.

I'm sorry. I made a mistake in saying that they were in Vietnam. They were in Korea.

A strong and resonant message here in support, gratitude and respect for family members in the engagement of war. Greatly reinforced by detailing each family member's particular involvement. Thank you for sharing this well penned verse and good luck! Debbie

An excellent poem to pay tribute to your family members who served in the military. The presence of the US (as well as military from other countries) has helped to make many countries safer. Well expressed poem. Sending best wishes for your entry.

There is so often a generational legacy. My grandad fought in WWI, my dad in WWII, my uncle in Vietnam, my cousin(s) in Iraq...
Blessings to every man and woman who stepped up to serve their country and defend freedom for all of us.
We owe them a debt we never can reply ~ and yet still, so many vets struggle with homelessness, lack of medical services, and a suicide rate that is 1.5 times higher than non-vets.
Thanks for writing this. We must remember the true meaning of Memorial Day...

I liked reading this. It had a good rhythm and rhyme scheme and brought the details of loved ones in the speaker's past out to be read and considered. It is a great post for this time of year. Nice share.

First, thank you for sharing about your family; what a wonderful legacy they have given.
I enjoyed the rhyme scheme; very clever use of same. A couple of the lines felt a bit off because of the need for rhyme because the syllable count was awkward; a minor difficulty as I was caught up in the 'story' and read on by.
Best wishes in the contest; certainly fulfills the Memorial Day contest rules.
Blessings

Hi Roberta, out of curiosity and my love for kind feedback, I really need to know what night have been syllable count errors? I read it thru over and over and am so careful with my meter so l never feel the need to force just for A rhyme. I can change my rhyme. Y' know? I thank you so much for your awesome feedback, but just need you to expand on it.

Minor suggestions Debbie...I went and reread several times and I think I understand why it felt just a little off. First, commas midline and unnecessary. They are like another syllable when read aloud because they are a pause. The line, "when he was just a teen" reads better for flow. Sincere best wishes in the contest; Understand both the pride and sorrow with which you wrote.

Thanks so much hon.! will change that because l agree
100 percent. I have so many who don't know how to read these so they think the meter is off and then am forced to use commas to guide them.thanks Roberta. I appreciate it very much!

A nice homage to the men of your family. The poem flows well. The rhymes are unforced. The images are clear. The narrative stays on point. Simple language lends to the poignancy.
Thanks for a good read.
