As a grandmom (Okay, my grandkids call me "meme" for some reason... how could I not enjoy this poem? We are endowed with superpowers, after all! Reading stories, blowing bubbles, sneaking treats, an extra little gift now and then "just because." It's fun to spoil them and give them back! (But not for long -- I need my hugs.) Good luck in the contest!

I don't think you realize how much you mean to me
Read my poem just one more time and maybe you will see
You won't know just who I am until the vote is thru
But maybe by the end of day, you will know who is who

Awww. meme made it! You're just so darn sweet!

Mystery poetess, I voted for this in the contest and had to come back and review. This is fun and adorable. Yes, we grandmas around the world love to give and are the spoilers! It's in our job description! A privilege too now that we a little more money and time on our hands.
Sending you my best today as always, and my very best wishes in the contest.

I really liked your poem, it would surely delight any child for sure!! There is much happiness and positivity in your post and that's what we actually need in this world: more of the simple grandma stuff.

Hi Mario. I can't thank you enough for your kind comments for my grandma's poem. I had most of my friends here in mind when I wrote it. But now someone has asked me to do a grandpa one, so I am asking all the guys if they are grandpas and what they love about it the most and for sure want to hear what the kids call you? Thank you for that ahead of time.

Hey Debi,
I'm not grandpa yet, it might come sooner than later, my daughter got married in April.... my best friend is one, and we know the grandkids too. Here is what he says:
To tell the truth, I like everything about being a grandpa, because it's a God-given privilege. Actually, it's an art in itself, because one learns to become a grandfather, like Victor Hugo said. It's being with the kids, seeing the smile on their face when they receive a treat and hearing their laughter in the park. But, the greatest thing would be to see your granddaughter telling you in writing that you are his closest friend in the whole world.
Debi
You know grandfather is called: yeye in China...
Hope I didn't complicate things for you!!!

Ah, I like how you wrote each quatrain dedicated to a 'grandma.' Though I'm from the US, I live in PA Dutch country, so we called her 'Oma' which is the German word. I particularly liked the line about Abuela sending her love in rhyme. It's a great children's poem. Best wishes in the contest.

Hi Faith, I love the name Oma, and wish I had room to add another verse. How sweet you are and I can't thank you enough for your kind comments for my grandma's poem. I had most of you, my friends here in mind when I wrote it.
Comment from Ginda Simpson
For many years we lived 4000 miles distance from our grandchildren, but when they came to visit, it was for a good part of the summer, and we had immense fun together. We never felt far apart because we would "skype" each other every week, and when they were real little they used to kiss the monitor when we said goodbye. Yours is a lovely poem that captures that very special connection that children have with their grandmas.

This brings back such wonderful memories of my grandmas and people who cared for me similarly ( I ended up naming my son after our "adopted grandma.") And it definitely floods my head with pictures of all of the adventures in which my mom brings my kids along. I love how you represented so many different grandmas from different cultures and know it will warm the hearts of so many!

An excellent post packed with fun with great visual! I enjoyed the way you tried to make it a universal theme by introducing the various translations for grandma. Your text needs to be a bit tighter in the 6th stanza (2nd and 3rd lines) and the rhythm was a bit bumpy in places where lines could have been better metered and/or condensed. But, overall, an original and enjoyable verse in praise of this wonderful relation! Well done and good luck! Debbie

Debbie, how sweet you are and I can't thank you enough for your kind comments for my grandma's poem. Yeah I had seen those bumpy areas too and hope I had fixed them but always appreciate good feedback. That is the very most important part to me. So anyway I just have to say tho I had most of you, my friends here in mind when I wrote it, as you all mean the world to me.

An excellent poem . My grandchildren have a similar story book about grandpas, using the different names around the world. Well done. Best wishes for your fine poem. It's bright and cheerful, filled with love, and it flows well.

Editing suggestion: remove extra spaces in the following:
"We can s ee her anytime, and we know she'll approve
Ev en when she wasn't close, we still could see her smiles"
