I agree with this poem. I have always enjoyed teaching first grade. I am sure it's because I could do things silly and first graders loved it. Where adults would question why? Thank you for sharing this with us.

Young children know instinctively how to be themselves and I thank you for sharing how you know this to be true. I appreciate your kind words and I am glad you agree with my piece.

I have always marched to the beat of my own drum. I was too short to wear a Maxie skirt and too modest to wear a short, short, mini skirt. A hem just above the knees was just right for my frame. LOL That made me unique in fashion. I was different in many other ways., but I liked being me. LOL You are so right Jesse. Well done Nancy:)

Thanks, Nancy for sharing your unique story about the length of your skirt and how you developed your own fashion statement by just being you.
Thank you for your kind words.
Have a wonderful day!

I've always said that all of my friends are eccentric and those who were not are rather boring. I like your definition much better. It is kinder and does not carry any negative connotations. As for myself, for most of my life I've tried to live within the expectations of others. Finally, in this last chapter of my life I've freed myself of those constraints. This particular line jumped out at me: "And, with each new passing day, they become more of who they are..."

I am proud of you for taking the time to free yourself from constraints and other boring attributes. Your bravery astounds the others in your group I would imagine.
Thank you for sharing your life and how you freed yourself and became more of who you are!

I appreciate your thoughtful response. It certainly hasn't been easy but it sure is freeing to be one's self. Thanks again for the great article.

No, it hasn't been easy, but it is worth it in the end.

I've always been drawn to people who don't seem to fit the mold of conformity, as well. As you say their personalities are multifaceted and they are more interesting people. Some times they see themselves as misfits, but most of the time they are okay with being thought of as different. Actually all of us are unique, but it is a human tendency to try to be a part of the crowd. We make ourselves less interesting by seeking to blend in the those around us.

Good point, Beth. Thanks for your insightful comments. You make some awfully great points and I agree it seems easier to blend in than the stick out but I prefer to be myself anyway.
Thanks for the stars and have a wonderful upcoming week!

-Nice artwork for your writing, Jesse.
It fits the topic very well.
-I like the opening describing individuality.
-The part about their mystery is a good
way to show that they are interesting
and not trying to be something they are not.
-The following paragraph elaborates on that very well.
-A very good closing paragraph.
-I enjoyed reading this. Have a great day!

Hi Jessse,
I agree with you totally. I am neurodivergent and my daughter has autism, ADHD and a few other syndromes. I abhor labels.
There's a lovely Maori word for autism - 'TakiwÄ?tanga'. It means 'in my own time and space. I love this phrase and it perfectly sums up the idea you are presenting here as well.
I always say to people that the only person you have to prove anything to is yourself. be true and honest. (unless you're a serial killer obviously!)
I've worked with children for nearly 30 years who all needed additional help of some kind and this is what we always try to bring out in them. you don't have to fit in to someone else's preconceived notion.
This goes for all walks of life and even here on the site in terms of what we write and conduct ourselves.
Very nice, Jesse.

Thank you for sharing the Maori word for autism it totally sums up what I am trying to express. I honor the fact that you have worked with children who need additional support and guidance and your points are all well taken! Thank you for sharing your deep thoughts and I consider you one of the best writers on this site.
Thank you for your kind words.

This is a very interesting post. I agree with you for the special traits that make a person unable to label. I think you are one of those. Well done. Sarah

Thank you, Sarah, for your kind compliments and your agreement as far as the special traits that make a person a nonconformist and unable to label.
Have a wonderful week!

It seems social classes and labels are based on pre-judgments and expectations. We ought to practice getting to know people better. Nice post to help remind people not to stick to only a few people who we think we are comfortable around.

Unable to label is an interesting take on the positions that are taken by those out of the norm and considered extreme by their opponents. I know we applaud those who run strongly on the side of our political leanings, however I don't know that we applaud those who run to the opposite of our political leanings. I am just saying.

Thankfully this has nothing to do with politics and political leanings. I just wrote how I felt about a subject I feel strongly about.
Have a lovely week!

So perfectly and eloquently written. I can relate. I too am a wanderer who does not like to be put in a box created by others for how they view me. Six shiny stars coming your way as I absolutely loved every single word.

Thank you so much for these wonderful shiny stars! I love how you view yourself as a wanderer who does not like to be put in a box. This is what I was trying to get across with my tagging those who are different as the unlabeled to be labeled.
I thank you for your kind words and for giving me an exceptional review and rating!
