I wish you would have gone into politics, because I think I know you well enough to know that your principles would have not changed. You would have made a great president. But with that said, I doubt we'd have ever met and became friends, so scrap that thought.Lol!!
Funny you should mention Hubert H Humphrey. HHH happens to be an old friend of the family. He was from Waverly, MN, which is 8 miles from our front door. He was big in fighting for better education, so he chose a couple schools in our county to evaluate and my mother was picked as one of his teachers to watch, because of her known skills to take a problem child and turn them into kids to be proud of. She used a method that wasn't always used back in those days. It was love, compassion and helping them to be proud of their achievements! Anyway after a while he would come home and have dinner with our family of nine, which he was impressed how she did it all. Over time it became a normal event to either go to their place or their family to ours. This continued (when he wasn't on the road) until he started to campaign as a running mate. I think that was around 62 or 63. My mom didn't agree w all of his policies, and she knew how to debate him. Anyway I just thought you might be interested in my little story.
I loved your post and I believe fate took you in life right where you belonged. Which proves that it's smart to follow your dream, it's also smart to know when to give up on a dream and start a new one. Thanks for the great story.

Debi, thank you for the six stars! You have a great story about HHH, the happy warrior as he was also known. Maybe think about that for a future writing. Terry.

Lol, I have about 5 things that I think might make for some interesting writing, but need some confidence back again.
I will give that some thought after I get out of hospital. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

This is a very well written post on ambitions and politics. You used very good descriptive words that made a lot of sense. I liked JFK too, but he died too soon. Thank you for sharing with us. Blessings, Teri

What a dilemma, Fireman, Sports Great, or President!
While all those positions can be rewarding, each occupation has it's own pitfalls.
Your ending about the changes in politics and elections, along with the effects of those changes is what I really agree with.
Your message to remember that this is America, and your comments about the land of the free and home of the brave are spot on and everyone should let everyone else live free. Nicely done.

The biggest problem as I see it, is the unwillingness on the part of some to accept the fact that we, even the best of us, will not always win or have our way in a a particular contest.

I think many people don't vote for any presidential candidate but against the other. Our national elections have become pick your poison. I know I didn't vote for Donald Trump in 2016 when I punched the hole next to his name. If the Democrats had run almost anyone else (not Bernie Sanders), they would have won.

Thomas, thank you for reading, I do think you are right about 2016, I voted Libertarian that year. Terry.

Well, Terry once again you have written a good story. It had a number of twist and turns, but you knew where you were going because the ending was good. Did you really live down the road from the Bush family and knew Laura in school? I never know when reading pieces like this where your imagination stops, and reality begins. Regardless, it was a well-written piece.

You are right, Terry. Most have forgotten what it took to get
here in the first place. The heroes, veterans, and others seemed
to have fallen off the respect list. You did a great job detailing
your ambition as a youngster/teen. I enjoyed reading about them.
I understood how the names in the news were trusted then, unlike
now. Will America ever return to those days?
Thanks for sharing, Jan
