I enjoyed this verse very much!
It tells a complete story.
From the elation of a new love, to the shiny newness wearing off and ending with the fond memories that will last a lifetime.
The rhymes work well without force and create a metre that is smooth as silk.
It's funny how our mind starts with one muse and then shifts to another. I love it whee that happens, it means we're alive and in the moment!!!
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful even if melancholic as it's really a slice of life you have given us in this poem. While at the "sunset" of our lives, we can wish to protect the young couple from all life's hardships but it's in the working through the problems that they will grow.

Thank you for your kind review and encouraging comments. We do want to protect our children from life's hardship but you're right, it's the working through the problems that they will grow.

Comment from Gloria ....
I love everything about your poem. Starting with the artwork that is most fetching to me, and then the finely metred and rhymed journey through emotions, as changes in life always bring.
So true we must all learn our way through our choices, and in the end most often it works out fine.
A little envy for youth and wonderful times gone forever is perfectly human.
I enjoyed reading this very much. :))

Thank you Gloria for your kind review, encouraging comments and special stars.
I too envy the youth and their life's journey ahead of them and yet, I really don't want to do it all again. (smile)

You certainly have opened a can of whoop... melancholy I mean. Always nice to read works of yours. Congrats to the grandson. Challenges in life are meant to strengthen one another when married. Genetically we differ, so it would be sound advice to be aware, not all will be a bed of roses, and by the way whoever said that more than likely never slept on such a bed.

Thank you Tom for your fun review and encouraging comments. Challenges and adversities do strengthen us. Sometimes I could do with that bed of roses until like you I realize, whoever said that never slept on such a bed. (smile)

Very nicely done, Janet. You have made me think about the last sixty plus years that my wife and I have been together. Thank God that the good times far outweigh the bad.

Hello Janet,
Well, where ever it came from, you should visit there often.
This is a marvelous poem with excellent rhymes and meter,
and a wonderful theme.
I agree, let them dream, for dreams oft do come true.
I love that last line too.
Well done.
Best wishes.

A powerful commentary on watching young lovers on a beach and reflecting on the past with all its heartaches and disappointments and wanting to give them advice as they are just starting their love affair.

Hi Janet,
quite a journey... the beauty you paint with words. Beginnings, the dreams lovers share. But oh how life changes as reality kicks in?
This story went from so beautiful and promising to woe within a heartbeat.
Reading you notes made it more apparent to certain wording of 'them' and 'their' within your composition.
And yes, melancholy it was, but it was a beautiful read all the same.
Loved the verse with the playful use of tomfoolery and mischief... reflecting back to a time when you experienced the feeling and joy of such an emotion.
I enjoyed reading your poem Janet, well done.
With our thoughts we create...
time's echo.
Kind regards,
James.

A really heartfelt and touching
poem. Most of us take trips
down the lane of memories,
and recall both the good and
not so good. I also gaze at
couples that walk down the
street. Some are younger,
some older. I'm 65, my
husband died 2 years ago at
59. It was a sudden and
unexpected death. Life can
throw us some fast and
hard pitches. This is a lovely
poem. Thank you for penning
it. Blessings ~

I am so sorry for your loss Regina. I would be lost with my husband. He is 82 but in excellent health. Still, tomorrow is promised to know one.
Thank you for this lovely review.
