It is a long time since I have read something factual from your pen and this was fun to read. One that I have always liked is the French 'Cracher dans le panier,' which apparently literally means 'to spit in the basket but dates from the days of the 'Terror' when it referred to being guillotined, the basket was there to catch the severed head. Charming race the French!

Yes, they are charming, lol. It has been a while, hasn't it? But when I saw Helen was puting together a book of idioms from multi authors, I thought I'd add my two-pence worth. Hmm, is that another idiom??? Thanks Jim. Glad you liked it. :)) xx

Thank yo so much for teaching me the origin of these idioms. I do know them and sometimes I even use ones like "Break a Leg". Now I know why.
Well done. I don't know whether I can come up with a few to share.

I just went into Google, 'idioms' and there are hundreds. It was interesting learing their origins. I'm sure you can find some that we'd all enjoy learning about. Try it. Thanks so much for reading my few, I'm glad you learned something, too! Lol. Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
