What a pair Colin and his Mother is. What evil forces dominate their lives? There are such evil people in this world and I'm sure glad I don't know any of them. A few nits:

"...wiped her eyes" is disconnected from the rest of the sentence. Easily fixable.

Pension misspelled in third paragraph towards the end.
