This is the first time I have heard or read tanka prose and I like it. Your spontaneous moment resonates with me since I have experienced that same instance when I was at my cottage, so many mornings. Very nicely done.

Thank you Raff for the wonderful review. I greatly appreciate you kind comments.
Tanka prose is one of my favorite JSF poetry forms. It has a lot of rules but also a lot of versatility. I am so pleased that you liked it.

Your words are so very descriptive that I could see in my mind exactly what you were seeing. The words flow freely and in words for easy reading. I get disappointed when someone writes a beautiful poem, but I must look up half of the words in the dictionary. Great job! The picture enhances the poem beautifully.

Fantastic tanka composition. The prose gives a clear feeling of being in the midst of nature, by a mountain lake, with all its beauty, amid changing seasons. The short poem describes cooking trout for breakfast.

I'm wondering how you manage that: do you catch the fish early in the morning? Or do you keep them in a cooler overnight, and if you do, how do you keep the wild animals away from it? I haven't done much camping myself, but I have family members who do, and I was just wondering if this is something you've experienced, or just imagined. My guess is that you'd have to catch the fish fresh, otherwise you might have bears as uninvited dinner guests, overnight (plus you'd need plenty of ice).

Thank you Mary Kay for the wonderful review.

We usually have a cooler in the vehicle with lots of ice that we can put fish or other perishables in overnight. But catching fish in the morning and then cooking them over an open fire for breakfast just can't be beat.

You're very welcome, Janet. Thanks for explaining, about the fish. So it can go either way -- kept on ice overnight, or fresh in the morning, and fresh is best! You apparently have a lot of camping experience. God bless you, and enjoy. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Such beautiful writing, Janet. I could imagine myself there on the banks of the shore listening and reveling in the calls of the loon. So well done!

-Nice image, Janet, it
looks very refreshing.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-A very good prose section
with many vivid images of
what is taking place in nature.
-You also wrote a good topic
with the first two lines
setting the scene.
-A good pivot line, followed
a good fish dinner over the campfire.
-It sounds good to me! I think I'll
join you there; it is hot here, too.

A commanding picture. The dialogue flows well. The tanka is deja vu harkening back to the youthful trip just above. The language is crisp and clean lending veracity to the telling. A lovely nature poem.

Thanks for sharing.
