I like this one, particularly because apart from a slight waver in concluding stanzas in varied meter, it's perfectly timed, the ballad form is perfect for your theme, which bops along, really about a troubled time of great loss, my dad was at Dunkirk in the beginning, brother David in Vietnam. Wounded. Beautifully written, blessings

Excellent, sometimes our biggest critics can bring out our greatest efforts, the forces would have been just the thing to change these blowhards, very well written and best wishes for your contest****kahpot

Good work, Stu! D--Day, 1944 was on my 8th birthday. My dad had been gone 2 & 1/2 years as a Chief Petty Officer in the SeaBees, and was gone a total of four years. In the Navy I saw a lot of smart--aleck kids get straightened out in boot camp, under the USMC drill sergeants, just a few hard--asses didn't make it. Still reading about WWII, still regret I wasn't old enough to go. In Vietnam twice, what a hell hole.
Appreciate your work to keep the WWII spirit alive.
