A poignant and emotionally-charged remembrance of the former occupant of an old farmhouse. The rich detail included in this piece advance its theme and tone immensely. Nicely done.

Most excellent. This is very well written, and touching topic. The ending is wrapped up nicely upon Edward finding what he was looking for. I suspect this will do quite well in the contest.

Have a great week!

    Thank you for your review, Erika. You never know when you write something, how other people will perceive it, especially when it is something close you your heart.

I'm sorry for the loss of your parents. I lost my mother 26 years ago tomorrow and it still hurts. Deciding what to keep and discard is a tough decision. Very nice job. Good luck in the contest.

    Thank you, Earl, for your thoughtful review. I'm sorry for your loss as well. It's been two years since I lost my parents, but it seems like yesterday. I don't think you ever really get over it, and, your right, you want to keep everything, but the job of sorting is overwhelming.

Dear Mystery Writer,

Funny, I wrote a very similarly themed story a while back. This seems to be a bit universal then, I suppose, sadly. The really sad thing is that we cannot truly go back. We can in spirit and heart and memories, but not in fact. I am so sorry about your loved ones - and losing them so close together must have been horrible. (Sending hugs-)

The story was nicely presented. With only one nit noted:
* He took a deep breath about every (fifth) step
--> write it out

Thanks and good luck!

    Thank you so much for the kind review. I didn't know you had written a similar one, though I think as we get older, we have to start dealing with such matters. I'm glad they didn't outlive each other, really. They were so very dependent on each other that it seemed natural for my mother to follow on my dad's heels. She was so very lost without him. Thanks for the hugs, I'll certainly take them.
    Thanks for the heads up on fifth. I'm silly!

    Oh, yeah. And you wouldn't have had any way of knowing about my piece - it was AGES ago. I was just thinking it was another example of 'great minds'. *smile*

    Indeed, great minds do think alike, hehe.

Bravo! The sentiment and the memories all wrapped up with a big red Christmas bow... Very nicely done. I enjoyed the walk with Edward down memory lane. Good luck in the contest! Smiles, Carol
