Thanks for sharing another enjoyable and entertaining story. Glad there were no repercussions from your nap, and that your Modera vaccine shots didn't make you sick. I am going to get my second Pfizer shot on Friday.

Well done! You've told the tale well, using rich imagery and analogies (why yes! the vaccine is the launch of 10,000 ships!) And, you've ended with the moral of the story, which is, like the young recruit at Lackland, we all have to fight 2020's biggest enemy. It's mankind vs the mutating virus and we all have 24/27 guard duty.
(As an aside, I also got no sleep last night, have aching muscles and a head ache after my first dose of AstraZeneca.)
I have one small suggestion for your story and that is to revisit this passage in the 3rd paragraph:
"...stalwart guard against the true enemy, sleep, which snuck up..."
It follows too closely to a similar reference in the second paragraph.

Huge thank you for reading and your astute observations. I'll take a look at that paragraph. Too often an echo is left to reverberate. Yes, I'll check.

Nice job, Jay, of entertaining and educating. As we age, we seem to be more aware of potential disasters--perhaps because we've survived so many of them. I read some sage advice (can't remember who to credit!) a few years ago. "Not every sensation is a symptom." I recall it at the advent of every strange "sensation."
I do think your paragraph beginning, "That was around 10," could use a couple of tweaks. Would "A.M." be better placed after 10, rather than 11:30? Also, I believe you have an extraneous "has" in your second sentence?

I'll take a look at those, Susan. Sometimes those post and ante meridiems need a tweak or two. I'll look it over thanks to your astute observation. I do appreciate your close reading.

You are welcome. My first proofreading job was at 15, followed by two others in later years. Old habits die hard.

I got some chuckles from this story, because for me they really hit home. I got my first vaccination a few days ago and although there were no side effects, my kids didn't check on my condition quite as often as yours did. I live alone and I don't want to found sprawled on the floor either. If you were 17 in 1957 we are close to the same age, and I also celebrate if I manage to get five hours sleep at night. I'm wondering if I really want to get that second dose. I've tried not to read anything negative, but the fact Roseanne says it's a doozy makes me a little paranoid.

Oh, please get the second dose, Beth. At our age, we can't afford to get the virus. I'll be 82 in August. By the way, it was the egg salad. I'm sure of it. It's still in the back of the fridge, but only because I'm dreading looking at it when I flush it down the toilet. Today's gotta be the day!

Your narration is so entertaining and your post-Covid story is so fascinating. I really enjoyed this part: "So it was that at 9:00 A.M., in the Kaiser Permanente nurses station, I received my second dose of the Moderna Covid Vaccination. Unlike the myriad of other vaccinations I'd had in my lifetime, after this one I was required to be detained for fifteen minutes before they released me to the world." Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

SSSSSStupendous--brilliant segue from army guard duty to insomnia due to terror of side effects. Cheerssssss. LIZ
stealthfully=>stealthily
[sugg omit: for some reason] I raced to the bathroom
(My friend insists the vaccine has given him ongoing itchiness and pinpoint pains--I posted on his "invisible rash" syndrome--he has a long-time fixation with sundry body oddities)

Thank-k-k-k-k you, Liz! LOL, I do appreciate your reading, especially your close observations. Oh, yes, I must change that stealthfully. Stealthily even has more of a cat's paws feel to it. Maybe I need to rephrase that "for some reason." I wanted to convey the stupidity of carrying on my chocking to death in the bathroom. Really! Seconds count. I was so close to dying then. Yeah, I get it about your friend. Men tend to worry overly about their pinpoint pricks. I hope you reconsider, and get your vacs, Liz!

I plan to! J&J one and done.

Excellent write. While most people around the world are eagerly waiting to get a COVID-19 vaccine, there are small groups of individuals in every country who have reservations about getting vaccinated. The apprehensions and fears about COVID-19 vaccines have been fueled to a great extent by the myths and misconceptions circulating on social media. You have penned your contribution to set the record straight with facts. Well done! I enjoyed your story!

Thank you, Seshadri for your kind comments and your astute observations. Yes, Facebook can be the real accessory-after-the-fact! I hope the moment you qualify, you get vaccinated!

How very entertaining your essay is. Who knew? I am slated to receive my first shot on the 30th of March. Up until a few days ago, I hadn't thought at all about side effects. I hope I don't have any. If they were prevalent I doubt that we would be accessing any vaccine. Hopefully!

I think you'll be just fine. Honestly, if I didn't have worries about the side-effects to keep me awake, it would be something else. Thanks for reading and for the stars!
