Diane, this is a lovely sonnet. The photo of the shattered flag says everything. I hope our country mends soon and that we reach out to people who may be different in many ways, but whose hearts beat the same rhythm.
Exceptional poem, Diane.
Have a wonderful week. Good luck in the contest.

Diane,
This is a timely and well written sonnet.
It seems the brokenness here will continue until Jan 20 when President Elect Biden is inaugurated. President Trump will not be helpful at all in stemming hate. I think Biden will have a lot of work to do to change this. But he will try.
Good luck keep writing and stay healthy

I wish everyone would be willing to offer their hand in reconciliation. I don't know if that will ever happen. You've written an excellent sonnet, beautifully worded, yet goes right to the point. Good luck in the contest.

Hi Diane.

This is an outstanding sonnet in form and content. It reads like a hopeful ballad of reconciliation. Your descriptions explain the problems in the land and the end of the poem describes a way of finding common ground.

Well done, and good luck in the contest.

Robert

    Hi Diane.

It would be wonderful. I'm waiting for it to happen.

I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.

My wife and I placed a bowl on a family room table and each day we both write something we are thankful for onto a card and drop it in the bowl. We started on 11/1. It seems to help this year. We will not be with our son's family this year for the first time in 24 years.

This sonnet has voiced everything I feel. We have been so divided both racially and political for so long, that it's time for a change. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

I wish I could give you ten stars for this posting, my dear Diane. Your4 words speak to me in such a profound manner and I am sure many on here will agree with you. Each stanza has a huge meaning for our situation today. This one is my fave though, Diane:

"I seek to grasp what fills the hearts of men,
When to the world they show a hostile face,
That in the dark of night will hold no ken
To that which greets the morning light's new grace.

"NOW THIS IS TRUE POETRY! Bless you, dear neighbor. Bob

Hello Diane, this is a beautiful sonnet with a strong message written in good abab rhyme and perfect iambic pentameter. Your message comes across with calm determination, no bitterness, which I find endearing. Your final couplet is great. An overall lovely piece of work with a good display. I wish you Good Luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy x

    Good Morning, Dorothy!
Oh! I am honored by your exceptional rating and complimentary review.
To write without bitterness is a challenge, for I truly have difficulty understanding the deep rancor here in America as Democrats pit themselves against Republicans and vice versa. So many levels of distrust and hate.
I am not naive when it comes to the issues, but healing and trust are needed if America is to go forward ...

    Thank you so much, Dorothy!
