This is a fine poem Di, your style of writing is distinctive and so very well done. The flow and articulation are lovely. The theme is cleverly plotted with the descendants seeing through the succession of inherited traditions, giving credence to the work, well rhyming and the swapping is integrated so well, good job, blessings, Roy

What a beautiful thought about the flowers living on through generations and how beautifully written. Sidestepping a bit, but still on the same track, when I got divorced 41 years ago, my friend Phillip gave me an aloe, a healing plant with a beautiful poem to go with it. I still have the original and have given shoots away to dozens of friends who seek healing from their divorce, and many of those friends have passed a piece along. Six stars for reading and letting me share.

Hello Diane. This is a beautiful tribute to your mother and grandmother and the relationship not only to the Hollyhocks, but to how they arrived there. Remembering how they got there is more important than just being there. It's a wonderful story about the history of the flowers and their origin. You also refer to the continuing on by the flowers living on through your daughter. It has clear sentiment.
You meet the swap quatrain style standard easily.

Well, so first of all this is a gorgeous swap quatrain, my lady -- you've got my hat off and my mouth hanging 'agog' simply with that smooth employment on such a large scale... WOW!! :) ;) But, oh, the story of the heart in the words, Diane -- you've got me grinning with 'shiny eyes' down here!! ;) Beautifully written and beautifully presented... thanx for starting my week out right... now I'm off to grade and address student questions for the morning (after I answer your question...!) - take care, Beautiful Michigan Friend! ;) Yvette ;)

Hello dear Yvette!
I so loved penning this piece - even if it did take me over a week!
So very pleased you enjoyed!
Do you grow hollyhocks?
They can become pretty darn invasive!
Off to the gardens soon! Snow is coming...again! Can you believe it? But I need some fresh air!
Thank you again!

Great presentation from start to finish Diane. I absolutely love Hollyhocks...All the different colors. I remember them growing in my grandmother's back yard like weeds because she never took care of her back yard especially after Gramps died.
I like this part the best.
"Through generations their joy will live on;
Grandmother's hollyhocks greeting the dawn.
Delicate but firm, such regal foundations.
Their joy will live on through generations..."
Bravo my friend. : ) Bob
