A lovely description of the woodland opens this chapter and later, after the funeral, Ian lapses into Scottish Gaelic for the toast. I think this could have been turned into something of a lesson for the benefit of ostensibly of Helen and also for all those readers not familiar with Scottish Gaelic -- there are probably quite a few.
I sense we are about to bump into the Taliban when we get to Pakistan and that would make for a dangerous adventure.

Thanks, Jim. I appreciate your comments. I used to add fairly comprehensive author notes but am now thinking that if people are sufficiently interested, they can look things up for themselves. I'll be interested to see how many reviewers query the Gaelic toast.

Yes, the Irishe version is more commonly known. Actually i was thinking the explanation could be woven into the text of the story, for Helen's benefit, as she would be unlikely to know of it.
