Dear Mystery Author,
I also think your elders deserve some of the credit, here, too. Even if they didn't realize it at the time, or didn't even mean to inspire you. Some of us respond to challenges and some of us to goading (bad as that may be. *smile* ) With me, tacky as it sounds, don't ever tell me I CAN'T do something, or I will probably HURT you moving you out of my way to go do it. hahaha
Sounds to me like those coaches really motivated you in their own way - and it worked out for ALL of you. Nice job.
This was really interesting. And congrats on finding the sweet spot. Good luck in the voting!

Thank you Robyn. You could be right but I still think that coach is a jerk. This incident happened 40 years ago and he still brigs it up every time we meet. But I'm like you I don't like to be told I can't either. Thank you for reading and reviewing my work.

Great story, Earl. I have noticed that there are more guys of every other sport than wrestling. I wrestled, as well, but I never could beat Mike Hearner to represent my weight. I did pin my first fish on my first real match though. Such a feeling.

I have to admit the story touched me more than some because I was the heavyweight on my high school wrestling team. I still remember all the time I spent in the steam and mat room to make weight. Didn't think you needed to compare it to scoring a touchdown-wrestlers have a more personal pride. My coach was called Sharkey and I'll tell you-he'd have gotten that kids name.

I know wrestlers have more personal pride, but I had to break it down for the non wrestlers. I actually had one conpare it to WWE. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

This is a pleasure to read. Your writing is smooth and the language is colorful. I grew up on campus Iowa State Univ. at that time center of collegian wrestling, so I can relate. I can also relate to the O.G. at 16, sadly. good story, interesting, good luck..

Thank you. Were you at Iowa when Nate Carr was there? My friend wrestled him our senior year and he was the only one Nate didn't pin. I appreciate you taking the time to read my work.

I was aware of Carr in the early eighties. I grew up watching Dan Gable, the Peterson brothers and Chris Taylor. Jim Gibbons was in my class in H.S...

It takes something like that to bring you back in line. You did well. LOL, what a fight that must have been. I loved it that your mother gave you hard labour all through Christmas, I should have done that to my sons!! Well done, loved the story, and good luck in the contest. ;)) sandra xx

I think you are right. The best and most memorable victories in this life are the ones you pull off against the odds. I'm not familiar with the wrestling terminology but you describe things so clearly that isn't a problem.

I was amazed at the fact you drank a whole bottle of booze and lived. In a sense you were very fortunate. It surprises me that institution don't teach grace, when someone serves time, it should be forgotten. But well done, it's amazing what can trigger a sporting miracle, they're not common, but worthwhile witnessing when they happen. Well done, a most enjoyable story, blessings, Roy
Typo : The problem was (I) was (I) skipping...2: similar to wrest(l)ing at Three rivers stadium.

Well I think that was a lot to be proud of! I know I couldn't have done it, but probably because I'm a girl. =] Very well done and I saw no errors. I hope you do well in the contest. Rox

Although much of what you delineate in your story is not familiar to an outsider like me, what pulled me into the story and kept me reading was how you executed the story, making it interesting enough for me to read it through.
Oh, and of course it reminded me of the fact that Trump once was a huge figure in WWE!
