This is a cleverly written piece, Earl. I liked it. Your rhymes are spot on and the tale itself is very interesting. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. I'll be rooting for you. :) Bob

Your Speaker tells us his story which does seem ironical when one looks at his life in terms of days spent in a classroom. I would like this poem a whole lot better if it wasn't written with an AABB rhyme scheme. Some lines like 4 & 10. seem forced and/or cliches.

A wonderful 'auto-biographical' poem that is light yet addresses some serious twists and turns -- you've done a great job with putting the situations to rhyme here: entertaining and easy-to-follow so that the reality tinged with humor can truly be appreciated! :) :) Thanx for sharing and good luck in the contest! :)

I taught high school for 28 years. I've taught 180 days and year around as well. It wasn't the number of days that I remember but the students I felt I helped reach out for the future of their choice. Your poem struck a note with me because my son is coming home after 12 years in the army and seeking??? Keep writing.
