This speaks the problems at fencing, about structure and shape changes decision, it appears continuous, man is helpless, cows may have questions about their rights; well said, well done. Keep Writing -- DR ALCREATOR

Man has much less control than he supposes, and the cows have their own ideas about where they want to go. I like that about them :))

You're right...mending fences each season was tough, although ours was do to the spring rains many times. And I'm pretty sure it had help at times from either the cattle or the deer 'cuz you'd find their hide on the knotted wires.

I really enjoyed your work, here, the fact that you have the reader looking toward WHY they might do it and even what type of spirit inside may have driven them...they certainly give the reader a lot to think about...! :) :) :)

Thnak you for sharing! :) ;)

Thanks for sharing the story about your own fences! Where do you live? Spring rain doesn't help, that's for sure. Now the USFS looks for ways to make the fences safer for wildlife, I like that.

    I appreciate your review :)

This was an awesome poem. My dad retired from being a Barbour master and bought an orchard. He bragged about his first barbwire fence. He still doesn't know that he put it in so crooked and my brother and the neighbor redid it without him knowing...loved your poem
God bless

Awww, your dad's fence - bless his heart! You did a sweet thing for him, now I hope you don't get sick of his bragging, lol. That fence of ours was a disaster, but we gave it all we had.

    Thanks so much!

Hi, my friend. This is good stuff...especially to be used in a free verse such as this. Perhaps you should have waited for a free verse poetry contest on here. I absolutely love your imagery used:

" . . . . we lay them down
in brown grass
beneath the aspens turned
gloriously fiery-gold,
before time and winter snows
tore the fence down
for good."

You should be writing novels, Carol. :) Bob

I wish I could have found of picture of the place where we had the fence, it is so beautiful - Uinta Mountains in Utah. MILES of aspens, all gold and tipped with pink. I did enter a free verse contest with the last one, about the avalanche.

    Thanks, Bob :)

I really enjoyed reading this poem. I found it very atmospheric. Your words really set the scene so well that I thought I was there. Nice one. Cheers. Jen.
