    Thanks so much, Roy, it's good to be back. My mind is mostly blank these days when it comes to poetry but I must try or it won't happen! I hope you are well and look forward to catching up on your poems, and others :)

Do you care for your mother? Are you her caretaker? If so, you are worth more than gold. Nursing homes have taken so many family fortunes. So sad. My dad had five million dollars and lost it all. It is so expensive. Thank you for sharing and blessings to you. Take it easy and breathe. Thank you for sharing

    My mother lives in a care home very close to me. I see her often but don't have the major duties. Yes, the reminder to breathe is well put - sometimes it's all you can do.

So sorry to hear of your mom's condition. It's great to see you posting here again, dear friend.

This is poignant.

GREAT METAPHOR:
bright sun blocked by
careful shutters;

AWESOME LINE:
I swam to reach her.

Expressive stanza about 'the dead'.

One spag nit - after a semicolon, should not be a period but lower case:

dark shapes with haunted eyes and
gentle fingers;
W(w)ounded, silent,
they waited.

Nice alliteraiton of wounded, waited, wondered and what plus consonance of W in away.

Outstanding closing note and AHA delivered deftly:

She opened her eyes.
Though screaming inside,
I took her hand.

Warmest Welcome back.

Sending healing thoughts...

Love,
rd

    Thank you so much, rd, for the most kind review. The poem just came to me while driving home from work, and having spent time with my mother. She's getting into the advanced stages now and I pray (or something like that) for her release from this world. In the meantime, I take her for car rides which is the one thing she loves to do.

    I decided that the dead all around her are all the facets of her real self - her intelligence, kindness, love of art and movies, love of nature and walking outdoors. She was an amazing person.

    love,

    How lovely she enjoys car rides and you can take her on them! So sorry for your slow loss (the most painful kind, in some ways). Sending Love, rd

How tragic. There are few diseases worse than the one that takes a mind. My aunt had that, and it was so sad to visit her, even in the early stages where she didn't know who I was and asked several times. She seemed normal, but she wasn't in the same reality as we were. My heart goes out to you. :)

    Thanks, Phyllis. It's sad to see them and especially during the times when they know so much is missing. Thankfully that doesn't happen often,
