This Joan D'arc contest entry is well written with its accuracy in historical events of her life and an engaging retelling the story of this amazing woman. What a statement that God honors women who bridge the gap when men are afraid to stand up. Good work. :0 GracieAnn

I think God gave her confidence. In fact too much confidence to intervene with the King's commands.

HI. Great writing for the Joan D'arc contest. Joan was definitely one of the most courageous women in history. You tell her adventures with great detail and description in your writing. She did indeed pay the ultimate sacrifice. Thanks for sharing this with us and good luck in the contest.

What an interesting time. To be a hero, to lead troops into battle and deaf eat the forces of England's might was no mean feat. It wouldn't have been the Church of England that martyred her, the church came into existence under James 1 of England in 1566, it would have been the Roman Catholic Church. But great tale Jan. A mysterious unjust martyrdom, well done, blessings, Roy

I read a play by Bernard Shaw. It was dated but said the Church of England. I thought it would be Catholic church as they were torturing people around that time.

She died in 1431, at the hands of the British, but as the Church of England didn't exist at that time, it was the Roman Catholics that did the deed. I did the research on Google, but well done.

Did you really have that dream? A clever way to illustrate Joan's feelings. A couple of spags. Capitalize Middle Ages.
reining king (sp) reigning.
Wonderful details and use of short sentences to describe her terror.
Great ending --contrast of heaven and hell (on earth)

I was intrigued by her. Thanks for spags

Wonderfully written, although I have to question the part about (first person) dreaming, since this is classed as a nonfiction. (Did you really dream of her?) Nonetheless, I should think this stands an excellent chance in the contest - the pacing is wonderful, the story well told, and I like how you conclude.

Good point. I had to have met her as per competition rule.
-
OH! I didn't read the rules. Then you have covered it well, I guess. :)
-
I read the play written by Bernard Shaw and was gripped by so much information. It was overwhelming to say the least.
-
I bet! Nicely done, anyway.
-
Thanks Dawn.

My pleasure.

This is the Catholic church at work. There is a side to Catholicism that few people know about. Throughout history, they have persecuted, tortured and murdered.

You have made the story of Joan D'arc very real! You've shared many facts about her I did not know, too. Incorporating her story into your dreams was a neat device. I like your ending, too. I hope you won't be offended--I caught a couple things...a priest gives last rites, a place without judgement or bias (no e at the end) I hope you do well in the contest. :-)

The story of Joan D'Arc has always fascinated me, especially once I took up the sport of fencing! She definitely got a very raw deal after all she did for France. Did she really hear from God? I don't know. Either way, it is a sad story. You told it well.

Dark and important to know. You bring both factors forward in this entry. One question:
she is being lead to the stay of execution.: stay of execution? Usually, that phrase means the execution isn't happening.
Otherwise, well done. Good luck.

It's an interesting idea to put an event like the life of Joan D'Arc in your dreams.
I would comment though that you use the line 'A priest reads Joan her last rights as she is being lead to the stay of execution. ' A stay of execution is a pardon and may not be appropriate here. But this was informative and a good description of the terrible times when people were burned alive for being suspected of something they were not guilty of.
