Excellent compare/contrast. I think you're right. I know I could never murder anyone... unless he messed with my family. I could kill if I had to, I guess, but I don't even kill spiders. I get onto a tissue and shake them outside. I would not have made a good soldier. :)

This was intense Patty, but what a fantastic read this 100 word flash is, well written with a unique subject that you have addressed superbly.
Absolutely adored it.

    Hi dip;
    thank you so much for reading. Yea, this guy has really cooked his own goose, but he didn't kill her - he murdered her!

Well Patty. He would certainly fit in the 'stupid criminal' category. You did a great job with the contest prompt--good word choices, characterizations, built suspense, & surprised readers at the end.

Wiil 102 words of a 100 word contest disqualify you?

Best wishes in the contest. Jan

    Hi Jan;
    thank you so much for your review. The contest guidelines say between 98 and 102 words, so I'm safe. (Thanks for your concern.)

Wicked subject matter but obviously very well done in all ways. The introductions was captivating to say the least and would keep any reader in total grip till the end of the work. I cannot offer a thing to make this any better! HIS GRAYNESS; Vance

    Hi Vance;
    thank you so much for the glowing review. I had a good time putting this one together. Getting it to come out precisely between 98 and 102 words was tricky!

I must admit, I've never thought of it Patty, but you're right, I knew the difference between manslaughter and murder...a plea bargain, hah hah. But thank you, an excellent post, thoughtful and clever,well done, blessings, Roy

    Hi Roy;
    thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I think I've been watching too many episodes of 'Law and Order,' but this came to me for the Flash Fiction.

Killing is killing no matter how you derived at it. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. There is good imagery.

Very true and well-written. We were out with friends and talking about someone who had shot his wife. One of our group asked her husband, "You would never shoot me, would you?"

He said, "No, I' going to strangle you with my bare hands."

    Hi Thomas;
    yes -- it is definitely not premeditated if you use the thing closest at hand - strangulation is very easy to prove as manslaughter.

I can honestly say I never thought about the difference of murdering somebody and killing them. But as I read this contest entry, it really came clear to me. You did a wonder job writing this. Good luck.

I guess there really is a difference, but never thought of it that way before. I still cannot get you work to come up on Classic Fanstory, while others work fine. Patricia
