Hi Tony,
I think the amazing thing about freedom is that it means something different for everyone. There are a lot of instances where people think they are free, but they are not the ones in control. I guess as long as we always think we're calling the shots, all is well. Nice job on the free verse.
Good luck in the contest!

This is a very thought-provoking poem! It's true that the wounds we carry within is part of what shapes us. But to be truly free, it has to begin within us and compassion for others is what enables us to help others reach for their freedom.

We
may elude
oppression
but it takes much more than that
to break the bonds
that spiders spin
around a victim's heart.
I loved this particular stanza friend, bloody brilliant!
Good luck it the contest, you have and excellent poem !

Well done poet. Some create cages, some are caged. I own my disability, it doesn't stop me from feeding the wild birds, listening to their birdsong. If we do one thing per day, we have achieved.

Excellent commentary and beautiful free verse poetry! I was so blown away with "The Moth" and now this, if it is possible, is even better. More timely. You "speak for all who are outcast from society." Yes, you do, and in such a well-written style. I want to show this to my friend, his name is David, and he loves your work as much as I do. So, I will add this to my bookcase. Your most brilliant point is that "without inner peace and equanimity, we're never truly balanced, never fully free." Others have written similar ideas, but your way is my favorite way. Thanks for sharing your talent and wisdom with me.
Your friend, Jesse

Excellent Poem! The words of this poem have a beautiful message. The author's words are heart felt, strong and thought provoking. Many times when others
ask me what is most important - the answer is always to have inner peace.
The reader pondered on the words of this poem. Thank you......

I am so afraid sometimes that we trade off, that we don't allow ourselves the freedoms we should, and then I am reminded of those lives that are never free, people running from tyranny and war...victims of deep and painful losses...
and I count my blessings.
This is my reaction to your marvelous free verse poem...Best of luck in the contest.

Dear Tony, another wonderful work to sit back and ponder. I loved the essence of this work, the wisdom and the closing speaks such truth. A well placed free verse, it captures not only heart, but gives hope, a gentle compassion to help with a gentle push to keep striving for that inner peace. It is indeed attainable.
Good luck in the contest, my friend.
Thanks for sharing.
