A very compelling read with great description and word choice. Especially enjoyed the last stanza's form and message of self reliance and independence.

Writing about our thoughts and sometimes our demons can be very cathartic and I feel this piece may have been that for you.
Very creative in metaphors for life. It is in the day-to-day we find our coping skills and grow. Well done.
Blessings

When we are single for a long time we value ourselves more and do more good things for our own benefit. We learn to know is more important.

Sandra du Plessis, thank you for stopping by.
Well , perhaps my lesson was learned far late in life. I have been single for about 35 years.
As for me, truly I have been in love with only two men in my life.
The first my one and only ex. A Viet Nam vet who is still battling demons. However, he is still in my life and I love him for him and we share children and our beautiful grandchildren. For this he will always be special.
The second, though he resides in my heart will never be a part of my life ever again. He is the one who taught me this valuable lesson and made me realize my worth through his betrayal and hurtful actions and lies. Ironic?
Most definitely.
For this I owe him a great deal.
My ex filled my life with betrayal too, having fathered a child within our marriage, but to make it fair, we were separated for a time.
Well never meant to be so revelational, but most time poetry is cathartic and its inspiration is life in all its province, good or bad. Right?
Thank you so very much for stopping by to read and review.

Lent or lint?
Not a bad free verse...enjoy the mornings, for if you are lucky the years to come will bring mornings when you realize you are still alive only because every part hurts...excellent post.

Thank you for sharing. This piece is easy to read and reflective to boot. Biographical poetry is the best of two genres combined! I love the personification in "fingers of water" and "time's march." Well done.

Hi Jimi, I really like this because the ending is inspirational and the images are authentic and personal. I was not sure where you were going until the last stanza, where you bring it all home that the need for love is really a need for self acceptance ans self love. Awesome write!

Comment from Gloria ....
Exceptional montage or etching of your morning, Jimi. I really got a kick out of the sugar cub ping and the strawberries running across vines in the curtains.
All held together with stirred cravings. That means one's alive, yes?
A beautiful poem from a beautiful woman.
