Food paint? That is funny. Good job with the prompt. Your lines flow smoothly & tell a good story. You are right about how young/old can/do make messes when eating. You are right about how others should view those.
Good job & best wishes I the contest. Jan

Are you aware of the play on words here? In the British services the place where you eat is known as the "mess". In the navy the "mess deck" is kept scrupulously clean and a "messing allowance" is money paid to you for food. But your unholy mess scares me -- on ly 17 years to go before "beige meat" oh, Yuk. Please god no.

LOL I am familiar with the terms 'mess hall' and 'mess tent' but messing allowance is a new one-great. Lets hope those 17 years go very slowly -trust me the beige meat is to die for -NOT.

How good this is, surely this must be the one for the prize. Very cleverly done and with good humor incorporated.
Image enhances the write and creates vivid imagery as a combination.
Well done, author.
Deserves a prize.
My best wishes,
RGstar

Nice metaphor for baby food. Some of it can be bad smelling and probably tasting worse than it looks. It is probably better to make a mess with this then to eat it.
You mention squash. That is usually one of the favorites amont babies. I know this having worked in daycare at one time.
Hope you did well in the contest.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to read and review. Your kind comments and wishes are really appreciated; as are the stars. I mentioned squash mainly for the color contrast- I know babies do seem to like it and ironically so do the elderly who have to eat pureed- it is mostly the pureed meats that are not readily accepted-yuk.

You're very welcome. There's a reason why the meats aren't accepted.

lol I totally agree, if the smell doesn't get to you the texture/taste will, and I have seen workers try to hide it by mixing other foods with it- it doesn't work.

All food is a mess after we have chewed it. Yuk!
A colourful and appropriate entry for the competition. Thoughtfully written.

What a fun piece. Unfortunately, I must say that I can only too clearly relate to the messy eating facade. I'm much older than 2 and much younger than 70 but just as messy nonetheless. I attribute it to living life passionately, in all manifestations of the term.
Great piece and ideal picture.
