I love the grayness of this poem and how it's mood echoed the lives of those who long for "summer's glories." The mood resonated with me because I am in a grey mood right now myself. Thank you for sharing this exceptional poem.

Thanks for a great review. Sorry you are feeling a bit grey now. Let's hope "summer's glories" are just round the bend for all of us.

Such a great poem. You would never have known it is coming up 50 years since it was written. The life of a carnival seems to have no age, as this poem could have been written today. It is well written and easy to read. It is thoughtful and emotional...sad... Very well done. Thank you for sharing.

A wonderful poem highlighting the greys of
autumn which are dreary in preparation of the winter months where many don't work and hibernate inside while waiting for the new summer months to arrive filled with joy, outside work, and an awakening to child like activities as we all revel in the warm summer months. Well flowing and nicely rhymed and definitely something a lot of us can relate to!

Thank you so much for this glowing review and for spotting the timelessness of it and of course for those amazing six stars.

Hi Pantygynt, it's one of those times when I wish I had a six. Your poem is masterfully crafted and I can well imagine it being the lyrics to a beautiful song. Had never thought of it before, but you are quite correct in your observation that a wet and wintry day at the seaside is mournful and forlorn. Empty streets come to mind. Your descriptive phrases in this well rhymed and flowing poem, poignantly convey the deserted image of a place that thrives in summer. Well done. Warm regards, Wendy.

Thank you, Wendy for this fantastic review. I hope its forlorn greyness did not spark off one of your more sombre moods. Lovely comment and I'm thrilled you liked it.

This was such a well composed, deep, and relatable poem. Although written in 1967, still is very relevant. I enjoyed reading this and thank you very much for sharing
