I love your command of the English language. Each word speaks something vital into the composition and created great visuals. Thank you for sharing and I totally enjoyed your free verse as usual

Great imagery....so glad it was not autobiographal . Who needs a salt cod spinach chick pea relationship? Though licking at the edges of our relationship....great image...love Van Gogh
God bless

when I finished reading it . i said bleak . but that is because my reality is. so each reader will have his own take on it.
a little metaphor in each stanza lifts the essense.
though I wanted more.
all in all it sounded like a classic.Z.

Very well written free verse Tony. Some good use of metaphor and alliteration in 'grey-green ghosts and pining' also 'fog..licking at the edges of our relationship' - very good. This is a really good poem. Warm regards Dorothy x

Hi Tony, this is certainly a very bleak poem my friend, the resemblances of the break up of a couple and the harshness of the landscape have certainly corresponded well together! The Van Gogh artwork suits your wonderful free verse poem very well.

Your artwork choice sure reflects the 'bleak greyness', Tony.

Excellent imagery of the bull and surroundings.

Top metaphors.

Thought-provoking couple of ambiguous comments on the 'relationship'.

Top free verse.

Cheers, Ray

Some landscapes gives one the feeling they have found God's landfill. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read. This has good imagery.

What a gloomy piece! You don't say who this couple is - presumably lovers or husband and wife on the verge of breaking up. The stark landscape matches the chill in the car and even the weather and the smells of the old town combine to add to the greyness of the mood.

The van Gogh drawing is the perfect accompaniment.

Thanks, Steve. I'm not sure who the couple were either. Just a faint echo of 'Last Year in Marienbad' in my mind.

It flows very badly and does not rhyme some of the structure makes sense and it is emotionless but it did present strong images but unfortunately I would not recommend it.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.

Thank you for your review and opinions, PJR. Sorry to hear the emotional impact passed you by. The poem didn't rhyme because it is free verse. Best wishes, Tony

This is so well written Tony, the narrative was stark and unyielding, the work had a sort of ghostly, spectred grip to it, capable of sending a cold shiver up ons'e spine, the mind imagery was a dread, abandoned feel, brilliantly written, with a foreboding atmosphere, well scribed and articulate, well done. Blessings, Roy.
