"Humor is often used to disguise pain and suffering and the demons that come to call inside one's head." --Marisa3... No truer statement has ever been uttered, Marisa. Comedy and tragedy make excellent bedfellows, just as horror and humor often work very well together. They always have and probably always will.
I was surprised to discover that Robin had such a close personal friendship with Koko the gorilla. She adored Mr. Williams, and he adored her as well.
Koko the Gorilla cried following death of her Friend Robin Williams, and became extremely sad. Care givers for the world's most intelligent gorilla claim she was close to tears following news of Robin Williams' death - 13 years after video captured the two becoming fast friends. News of Robin Williams' untimely death hit particularly close to home for famed sign language gorilla Koko, who handlers say was moved nearly to tears by the somber mood shared by all at her Northern California home.
Staff at the Gorilla Foundation were, like much of America, in mourning after hearing the news on that fateful day. Williams visited their center in 2001 and quickly befriended Koko, making her laugh for the first time in six months.
So when they explained to Koko, who is fluent in American Sign Language, that a dear friend of the center had died, she soon became sad and is pictured sitting hunched over with a quivering lip.
It would seem that we are not so different from the beasts after all, right, Marisa?
I agree, Robin was an extremely gifted "everyman's funnyman", yet he took his own life due to depression.
So sad, the masks we feel we must wear sometimes...
A wonderfully written tribute to Robin, featuring many of his hilariously outrageous quips.
Well done.
He will indeed be missed.

I was not aware of Robin's bond with Koko, but I can't say it surprises me. Koko is extremely bright and intuitive, so it is only natural she would connect with Robin's loving spirit. As you say, we are not so different from the beasts. These lovely primates share 99% of our DNA, so it stands to reason that they feel as deeply as we do.
Thank you for sharing this with me, it is such a touching thing to know.
I greatly enjoyed your review.

What a fabulous piece of work you've written here. It surely deserves a six which I seem to always end up using and then wishing I had one more to give to someone with great writing skills.
I liked how you wrote this essay and included quotes he was known for and movies in which he was in. I loved Mrs. Doubtfire and watched it many times with my children and grandchildren. Like you said, his gift was to make people laugh. Well written and just want to let you know you should be proud of this piece. Hugs, Drew

Exceptionally well written tribute to, yes, an icon of laughter. I feel like I grew up on consuming his humour, and equal talent as an actor, and have been very influenced by him. Great choice of quotes to reflect and appreciate who he was, and still will be in the history books of entertainers. The mold was broken after this guy was created. What a sad, sad loss to our world. It seems I don't get the choice for sixes, but would if I could; best tribute I've read yet. JJ

JJ,
Thank you so much for your warm review. I'm pleased that you found this to be a proper tribute to Robin. As you say, they really did break the mold when creating him.
No worries about the six, your review was better than a six for me.

What a beautifully written piece. Send it to his family. I love the one liners you quoted. Perhaps life is just too intense for emphatic souls like Robin. You can only take on so much. I watched what I believe what was his last movie.. The Meanest Man or something like that. He looked younger than and handsome, I thought. Perhaps he had made a decision and was at peace with it.

Shari,
Thank you for this wonderful review. I so agree that Robin was much too in-tune with life's intensity, in the end it overwhelmed his gentle soul.
Again I thank you, and especially for the generous six stars.

I have to say a resounding amen, he wasn't any "run of the mill" comedian, he was also a great actor, one has to be to play somebody other than yourself, he displayed compassion and humanity on a large scale, RIP. This was absorbing and readable, well researched and well presented, you have done a great job with this. Well done, blessings, Roy.

Wow you had me in tears with this wonderful tribute to Robin Williams. He was such an amazing actor/comedian. Depression is such a ticking time bomb as I know only too well.

I do so agree that depression is a "ticking time bomb" and a relentless pursuer of some. Unfortunately it won out in the end with Robin.
Thanks so much for you lovely review.

What a great tributary piece of writing to Robin Williams. He was a remarkable comedian and actor. One of my all time favorites. It is sad to think while he made so many of us laugh he was so miserable himself on the inside.
What I really appreciated about your essay was all the quotes. What great reminders of his talent.
Blessings,
Marsha

This was a very powerful and beautifully written tribute to the man who made so many people laugh, spread so much happiness around whilst his head and soul were crushing him. Everything you wrote shows the world what an incredible person and actor he was. He lived to make us smile, be happy, laugh and enjoy the roles he played on everyone's TV screens. Your tribute to him was written from the heart. A very well deserved six. An amazing read. Genya
