My first reaction when I heard of the deployment (and the commitment of our own prime minister) to this rear guard action against ISIS, was 'here we go again'. But, my conscience tells me we had to. It's no easy thing. Your excellent essay gives a balanced and compassionate overview of the state of affairs in this dangerously expanding religious campaign aginst the west and anybody who disagrees. It is a complex and dreadfully hard battle for military to cope with, let alone for my tiny mind to work out. I enjoyed your intelligent and articulate musings here. They add perspective, if not solutions to the way of the world at present.

Canada is there too and I don't have the smarts to figure it out either.

So well written,Echo. I was 20 miles away from Manhatten when 9/11 happened. Needless to say, I was worried sick about my friends that worked at Twin Towers. (they were all fine)
I am so heartened that you cared and that you wrote so clearly and well about your perceptions of that event.
I think your write was well expressed and your feelings are like that of many of us. Your approach was well balanced and looked at both sides w/o being .
judgmental.
Thank you for sharing.
Well done.

A fair number of Canadians died in the towers, and Jews and many Europeans. Our soldiers, as did many other nationals stood beside your sons. It was and remains a global scar and a continual war that truly has become WW111.

Your Memorial tribute to 12 years after 9/11 is eloquent in figurative language knowledgeable of historic data, of national leaders and their strategies, and of deep lessons learned of revenge, retaliation, hatred, violence, and resolves to be real about human nature.
In those figures of speech, (e.g. the "fin above the water, and the shark below..."), as well as analogies and metaphors reveals your creativity and sense of reason in philosophy, more than smug about war.

Yes, I also subscribe to the Christian religion and in a spiritual way, rather than a hierarchy, and more in reaching out than indoctrination.

Indeed our digital age with ever-advancing technology, sobers us to be diligent. I believe you indicated you live in Ireland. In any case, you deserve the six-star rating.

No Don, I'm much closer--Canada. Do you know what impressed me more than your personal remarks, but your willingness to sign your name. Yes, we are not anonymous and we should trust enough--just enough--to share.

This is perfection from start to finish. Your synopsis of the state of the world and its rapid deterioration since the events of September 11th is conveyed beautifully and without real bias. I agree with you that there is a huge difference between those who practice their faith peacefully and with love and the ravenous zealots (of any religion) who look to eliminate those who differ from them. Nicely done and I thank you so much for sharing this with me.

Thanks for the stars, but especially for reading. While this was more a personal write, rather than political, I find that people are reluctant to share their doubts, fears and honest opinion, continually being swayed to mouth the party line.

I think you are right about that, but you know we angels go where the average fool fears to tread so I tend to voice my truths quite readily. This is an exceptional piece which speaks what many fear to say.

This warrants a 6 if anything does, but, alas, I am out. This is such a powerful statement that I think you should send it to a local/national newspaper in the hope of getting it published. This sentence took my breath away:

It is even harder to accept that we are hated for the same irrational lack of reason and our differences...so very true.

Hi Ingrid,
I have now read this a few times... I didn't want to rush a rant back on my reaction, as this content has a way of stirring emotion to ones own perspective on this insurmountable issue... all I do know, this back and forth, you did this to me, now I'm going to do it to you, is just fueling more hatred... and this is where it becomes murky. For the zealots, extremists, or fanatics, what ever we want to label them are just that, people who hide behind a religion or faith to gain a political foothold. Of course the foot soldiers on any given side are there fighting for what they believe in... what they've been indoctrinated in believing... the 'sell' but the people running these horror shows, what are their agenda? This part of this topic could go on for ever, just as it has done in the middle east... the fight against us and them. The world is caught up in an unwinable war... what is the end objective on anyone's side? Peace? Power?... no, these are distributive tactics to keep every one's eye on the right hand, while the left does its work for the real reasons behind these conflicts... the old and timeless hunger for control and power. It has nothing to do with religion and faith, no, not behind the scenes... that's just the easiest avenue to sell the reasons. Where are the thinking men and women, the leaders, the sages, the negotiators? Oh, that's right we're been told there is no negotiating with 'these' people. I can't see how all these wars will ever stop when all we do is fuel the fire. But in saying all of that, this is one of your standard trade mark writes... yes the ones that evoke emotion. You Know I don't like using this word... but 'so' damn well written. You came from 'so' many different angles, threw colourful metaphors into the mix... which by the way, I loved... made statements that demanded a response... ah, yes this is a Spiritual Echo special.

You and me in a room, eye-to-eye... face-to-face, we would either talk our selves silly or end up trying to kill each other... but I think it would be talk our selves hoarse... you are a wordsmith, a thinker and a woman of substance... how could I not love you?

May love and peace prevail on earth.

With our thoughts we create,
excuses to a bigger picture,
James xx

Yes this was an exceptional write that deserved the accolades to its construction with more than I could offer, I am sorry for that, but you know where my heart lies.

I agree with all you have to say. There is no doubt in my mind that religion is just a mantra and shield to rationalize and give some legitimacy to some crazed individuals and groups, but power leeching is the core cause. Americans have their own mantra, 'to preserve freedom and a way of life.' to me that's also a crock. They want the oil.

Once again, our two countries are united, as we join forces to back the US in their coalition of allies with the latest initiative. Sigh

Amen to that spiritual echo, I was quite surprised by the lack of comment about 9/11 on this site, your writing my friend is quite superb and so correct!

If we could only start a clear-thinking plague and cause
more people to go rational, and see that power corrupts
and live and let live can work if we work at it. I didn't catch any spags. Excellent post.

Very well written as far as I could tell. You bring up the 9/11 as one day that changed the world. And so it did. Not for just America but for the entire world. Since that there, we walk in fear of terrorist around the corner never knowing what lies ahead.

Your commentary rings another anniversary into being. I did not know that Obama sent more soldiers to Iraq. How sad?

Oh yes, and the bombing will continue, now, as publicly stated, going into Syria to stop ISIS. There's so much more that is yet to transpire.
