Love is. It imposes no obligations on the beloved. Marriage is a partnership with legal obligations, benefits and restrictions. Either can, and does, exist without the other. I don't want to know the details of another's private life. It's none of my business. As a society we've lost the custom of keeping private things private. Instead, we blab everything to everyone like preschoolers, with no sense of boundaries. If someone doesn't want comment made about his/her private life, they should not talk about it. Perhaps our society should consider legal partnerships and leave "marriage" to the clergy to define. :) Nancy

Hi Nancy,
thank you for a very interesting review, I do appreciate what you've said and for most part I must say I agree, but I also believe in 'the truth shall set you free' so maybe the blabbing is just another way to disarm any flack before it may be used against us?
Take care, and thank you very much.

"Aloha" James - great to see you posting again! I LOVED this piece! (And yes, Hawaii just become the first U.S. state, I believe, to recognize gay marriage). Your piece was very well thought out, very logical and very persuasive. Well done!
Minor spag:
there is(are) always going to be human beings that(who) don't agree with each(one another) other on everything (human BEINGS - plural - so everything else must agree)
for most of the opposition against same-sex marriage,(delete comma) comes from the church.
and yes it does - the bloody CHURCH has a LOT to answer for thru the ages I'm afraid!
Bravo!!!!

Hi Sharyn,
thank you for such a wonderful review, you sure graced me with that warm Hawaiian hospitality ... yes the same one that showed the rest of the fine states, that united should not just be a part of a name, but a statement to the rest of the world.
I appreciate you picking up my mistakes, it's friends like you that help me improve my writing skills.
A sunny farewell form Iluka ... take care, and thank you!

While I don't disagree with you, I had to read eight paragraphs before you finally got around to mentioning
your point. You might want to consider some rearrangement.
Peace, Lee

Hi Lee,
I call it building the mood... setting the stage.
The actual questions I asked myself before writing on this subject... and after all they were very short paragraphs.
Thanks Lee, your review is appreciated.
Peace to you brother.

Okay, James. But I think you're hiding your light under a bushel. Lee

James, I love everything you wrote, they are all my sentiments entirely. Homosexuality is part of nature, I cannot understand why it is condemned by religions, because I truly believe this is through ignorance. Even parents of large families can spot the child who has been born different to the other children. I wish more people who have problems with it should study more about human nature. These words you have written are so true
We should all think long and hard, before we lay judgement on a minority, who just want to have the same rights, that most of us take for granted. Divorce rates are not going down, but in fact, are on the rise; indeed, who amongst us has the right to cast the first stone?
Well done Mary

Hi Mary,
thank you for your support on this issue, it seems there are a lot of opinion to what is natural. But like I said, while we fight amongst ourselves like children in a school-yard then the divide stays a wide as the ocean that divides us... can't we all just get along, and check our ego at the door?
As always, thank you so much for your wonderful review and the friendship I hold so closely.

Every human being has the right to choose his or her religion, or none at all. We owe no account to any other person, for our faith or worship. But we do have a responsibility to ourselves; striving to be the best human being we possibly can be, without judgement.
I will write my comments in private. Beautiful story James. Yo are amazing. Hugs Terry

You are one-hundred percent correct. The more we allow the one-percent to divide us, we lose. We do need to protect our democracy from a theocracy. It's knocking at the door, and we still argue about abortion(women's rights) and gay rights. It threatens many people's right to vote and keeps many citizens illegal when they could be contributing fully to our country.
I still believe that the majority know the problems. It's just time that they are heard as much as the others. Obstructionism is destructive. Division is poison to democracy.

Hi BD,
I hear your own passion coming out to play in this review, and I thank you for that... for in reading that, I know I have written something worth reading.
If it has the power to evoke the healthy debate needed to improvement of what seems to be the 'school-ground' we are playing in, than all the better.
I appreciate you fine review and rating... thank you!

Our author assails us with platitudes and we get the picture of feeling type of man, where values are paramount. Right and wrong, good and bad are what governs his life. At best he is a fine human being. At worst he is too judgmental, particularly about himself. The truth about love, life and anything else emerges not in isolation but in relationship. The truth lies essentially in ourselves. We need to keep contact with this; "To thine own self be true. And this must follow, the night, the day, thy canst not be false to any man." So said Shakespeare in Hamlet yet Hamlet was a soul in torment. It was his mind that did the mischief. Miamodese was asked to state all wisdom of Judaic law while standing on one foot and he said; "Love thy neighbor as thy self." The truth lies in relationships. Follow your own essence and it will have its own explosive reaction. You saved your wisest words for the end; "To strive to be the best human being without judgment." -Ekim777

Oh James, you are an impressive stud-muffin.
You have written an impressive essay. Your points are well organized, flow freely in an orderly manner and your sentence structure is friggin' amazing. It's as if your sprouted wings and decided to fly.
From where you started here to this post, the difference is mind-boggling. And I know it's not easy, but as in all journeys, your strength and confidence grows with every success...and this is a big one.
There three small and very minor corrections. See below.
Do we not have the faith in ourselves as ( SB-- DECENT--DELETE--descent) human beings to know what is right or wrong, good or bad?
I read a recent commentary on-site; the subject, (g)ay marriage being (SB--ACCEPTED--DELETE--excepted) by yet another American state.
we (SB LOSE--DELETE--)loose the advantage of true democracy.
As to the content, you didn't raise one point that I disagree with. Rock on, Jumbo.

Hi My Dear Friend,
there is no higher praise that you could give me, than to tell me I have improved... yeah obviously my spelling still has a way to go.
Your help has been invaluable in my forward progress, and for that I thank you whole-heartedly.... a six from you and I know I'm on the right track.
Your support is more than any rating could offer, for genuine friendship is the true wealth, and I'm filthy rich!( Yeah, I wish!)

I absolutely, wholeheartedly agree with your message and I so much appreciate your taking the time to express it so eloquently. We need more activists like you who espouse tolerance, love of all as equals, and treating others as Jesus would have. I caught a couple of tiny things that can be fixed with a quick edit (i.e., "excepted"). This is so small, though. I congratulate you on your message and on the way you've written it.

Jumbo J,
The theme you chose was awesome to me! Thoughts are expressed and described well. Well chosen words, colorful arrangement and wonderfully decorated thoughts.
I agree with everything you wrote here. I had the right to chose my partners and everybody should also have that right too. I married four different men and I am keeping the fourth one.
There was no SPAG. No typos. No homophones. No problems at all.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Love you,
Oatmeal
