Cute story for kids, all of whom can relate to the personified animals as they start school. It's such a huge part of a kid's life, and often traumatic for many. I wish the schools would remember why they exist... lately you hear horror stories of schools trying to take control of kids away from parents, who are often not welcome in the public building!

My wife works in the Business Office of our towns B.O.E. and the stories she tells me, from both sides, more so on the demanding parents is incredible. We (wife & I) were never like that. We made our kids work for what they wanted and accountable. And, we were ALWAYS there, not invisible as some parents.
Get off the soap box JD... thanks for reading Phyllis. John

Good story with good lessons. The characters are engaging with dialogue and feelings suited for children.
I've met some of these characters in other stories you have written. Are you compiling them in a book?

This is my second story. I'm trying to develop them. I hope to develop a book with stories, or individual stories, although the way they are may fall short.
If you have any suggestions, I'm green and all ears. John

I so related to Mango and her reticence to go to school and then her eagerness to learn. I think she learned patience. The way you say it it sounds like she was being a brat. She was just eager to learn and needed to learn patience. That's a good thing. Patience comes with learning to take turns and wait in line, too.
One other thing you could say that she learned was to not to use ain't any more. LOL

Yes, the "ain't" aspect for me was a big part of the story. I didn't want to point to it, but subtley.

Hi John,
This is a great story, and you really bring a warmth to your characters. Mango is wonderful and will help children who are reluctant to attend school feel more at ease. I like the moral of the story to have patience and tolerance and not expect instant gratification. Well done.
Bye
Rosalyne :)

Thank you Rosalyne. I'm trying to build Mango & Bert into a series of books each with morals, lessons and teaching in each one. If you have any suggestions, I'd be happy to listen. Always appreciated, John

I love this children's story about Mango and Bert.
The story line is interesting and the dialogue keeps it moving smoothly. It also teaches a great lesson in patience. Very cute and I smiled as I read it! BG 8-)

Nice children's story, jmdg1954. Full of colorful characters, and the dialogue between them was great.
It also has a great moral lesson woven into it, too. Well, actually, it has a couple.
One; It's good to go to school and learn. Meet new friends, improve your reading, writing and mathematical skills, and...
Two; it's okay to have to wait to get what we want, sometimes. Often times, it works out much better than we could have ever imagined that way.
Nicely done!

Always appreciated. John

I really enjoyed it, too. I read all types of poetry and prose. I've never attempted to write children's stories, though.

I think this is a good children's write that makes good use of the personification of the animals to relay a valuable moral that the Rolling Stones are famous for.
Great work, thanks for sharing.

John, I have no doubt that children will love this story of Mango starting to school. And, the life lesson is well planned, friendships, people of authority, teachers need breaks too, you can't always get everything your way , and how to accept an apology. Well done, Carolyn
