I was afraid that Rabbit wouldn't hug Virge and I knew that would have about killed him. I liked that Virge didn't let him win at checkers and reiterated the lesson he had told Rabbit earlier about holding your head up and trying your best. This has been one wonderful story and I hate for it to come to an end. I really have enjoyed this one.

Virge and Rabbit reminds me of a song by Brooks and dunn a country western song about a white boy and an elderly black man, who was his friend. The song is called, "I Believe."
I loved this chapter and particularly how Virge was teaching Rabbit about the difference between instinc and things you learn. I though you wrote their relationship into something very warm that the reader could feel. Great job.

Oh, I so love this story! I've been off the site a fair bit lately, so I'll just have to take a peek and see I didn't miss an earlier chapter.
Wonderful characters, excellent dialogue, vivid descriptions and a moral of sorts with every chapter - now that's entertainment!

AWESOME! I had to cut loose with one of my precious "6 stars"! Gol durnit! I love this story. I love your writing. I love the little lessons woven thru the anecdotes. The warmth & affection between the child & the old man is so palpable, I found myself craving a similar kind of friend for myself. I could feel the sense of "good-bye" all over the place, but the piece wasn't written with a dreary tone. It was a lighthearted piece, so enjoyable to read. Thanks so much for this little jewel! Your writing is awesome! It's obvious you're having fun!

A very quaint and very believable story. As If You are The Rabbit. I and my sister also went to my grandparents while my younger brother, who is now dead was being born. Thank you for bringing back some good memories lost in a sea of pain.

It was a pure pleasure reading your story. It looks to me each word for your story was carefully selected making it as colorful as it could be. I just realized how much I was missing that in my life. I have to find a time for reading a good story. Thank you

This chapter has good transition between the events and conversations. This chapter is well balanced as far as the characters are concerned. The pace is nice, steady and consistent as the writer does a good job of ending this chapter and setting up for the next chapter.

Your characters are larger than life. I love the interaction between old Virge and young Rabbit. It's weird you should write about this, but I was taught as a child to play chess, backgammon, and checkers by an old man I loved very dearly; he was my grandmother's brother!
