Thank you so much for writing this great piece on aging, or just getting older? HA...I am one of those born in the 50's and every day see myself getting older on the inside and the outside. Glad you for "thinking" on paper!

I have to agree with you. I've always marched to my own drummer, and been called various names for it: eccentric, daffy, unique, freak, crazy, fun-loving, funny, the list goes on. I spent years lamenting I wasn't like 'normal' people. I started looking at normal people with different eyes as I aged. They looked kind of boring to me. No disrespect to them, they seem happy enough with their choices, but their choices would suck for me. So after I hit fifty years of age 3 years ago, I stopped worrying so much about others opinions of me and freely embrace my inner squirrel. Embracing my squirrel has led to a lot of adventures I never would have experienced if I'd kept trying to fit this square peg into a round hole!
Nice article. :-)
Be yourself everyone!! You don't get a second life to do it again if you realize what you missed out on the first time.

Well done with this excellent story. I agree with every word written. I'm not into "mutton dressed as lamb", but get very angry when the clothing Nazis or hairstyle Gestapo make their judgements and criticisms. And nine times out of ten, the person looks fantastic, and these old crones are just pure jealous. And usually have no sense of taste or style themselves. I often wonder who makes up the "rules and regulations" of life. Who says we MUST get up at a certain time, and go to bed at a certain time. Eat our meals between certain hours. And NEVER dance in the rain, with or without a hat.
Good on you for writing such a poignant and inspiring piece on ageing - and telling those people who would have us live our lives according to the rules of age appropriate behaviour to go and "shove it"!. :-)

Interesting words of advice as I near the big 50 zone. I don't always dress according to my age... I do like my leopard print dresses, oops! Recently, I've decided to pack them away for holidays, where the neighbours can't seem them. CG

this is very well written, titanx, you did an excellent job writing this story about aging. a woman i worked with was in her sixties and wore high heels and short skirts. when her son was in the hospital after being shot, she was getting a diet drink from the vending machine and a nurse asked her how old she was, my friend told her. she grabbed her by the arm and dragged her over to a doctor and said she needed to be a poster child for the diet drink she was drinkingf

Oh what a great topic. I won't say how old I am...just that T-Rex use to chase us home from school. Okay...I'm 67 and still watch cartoons I grew up with. I guess there is some truth to acting your age. Example: there are some actions that go with age. When I was a younger wife I would make a scene if my husband strayed. Today, I would handle it differently.I'd wait until I got home, then smack him on the head. I'm older and have a little more control of my emotions. But I do agree with you about other things, such as how an older well built woman can wear. Good writing.

You're right girl, growing old doesn't have to be something terrible. If you want to do something just do it. Who says you can't anyways? It's a moving generation and one which can decide for itself.

I've just read an interesting essay on a subject that seems hard to define exactly. It is said that "age is just a number" and I guess it shows perfectly in this well-thought piece. It might be my interpretation of this piece but I've seen hints of self-improvement advice in parts of your post, especially with the last sentence. I tip my hat to the greatness of this piece, Titan!
