Bill Schott: good story from a strong, brave man, a real man who does what is right rather than hide behind his wife while she does all the suffering. When I married, I only wanted one child. My now deceased husband didn't care one way or the other. After three daughters were born and I filed for divorce (not because of the kids!), then and only then did he get snipped and then only after his brother-in-law told him that in order to have fun since he would soon be a single guy, he better get snipped so there would be no more children with whom to pay child support. Good true story and one again, bravo! livelylinda

Well at least you went with her to the appointment and made an informed decision. My husband (ex now) didn't go and I had the tubes tied as soon as the 2nd baby was born. He wasn't even there for the short surgery. I found no spags.

Firstly congratulations on proving you are a good and responsible man note I did not say a real man I hate that saying. Then congrats on sharing this to help alleviate the fears of others at least for the op the twist of humour at the very end was previous

A well-told story, that so many men could relate to. Women can also relate. Most husbands and wives with more than 2 kids can prob'ly relate. I like the way you told this, with all its awkwardness and humour.

Bill, did you ever receive my messages re contest voting? I just wanted to make sure you know, we can vote for our own entries, (I double-checked)

Yes. Thank you, Mary. That rule must have changed or only some contest hosts don't allow it.

I enjoyed this
I am new to this site, but I am really liking your writing style.

When the patient had to look to see if the vision of the doctor was actually blocked. I giggled a little.

The only improvement I would suggest is to be consistent with your paragraph style, placing an extra line or not to indicate the paragraph ending.

Over all I enjoyed, the story. Plus the little kick out of the sense of humor attached.

I thought you did an excellent job with this. It was interesting. I love how you showed your wife and the doctor looking at you during the "sales presentation". You have a natural way with the reader. Very well written.

This couple's dilemma and decision were told in a very understandable and rib-tickling way. There was a word missing in one sentence: was about to added to injury. (was about to BE added...):

I really enjoyed this and it kept my attention from start to finish. The last part where the wife upped the 'snip' date, made me chuckle, and it took me a while, but the shark analogy was excellent :) Tina

So the site of that famiy and all the kids did it for you? Best to just get it over with anyway. The sooner the better for all concerned.

Wow! You certainly have a way with words. The shark analogy kind of went over my head towards the beginning when the doctor was still trying to sell vasectomy to you versus having mom go through the surgery. Other than that, it was compelling and...disturbing. Great essay! I need to go gouge my eyes out, now. Have a good one.
