Thanks for sharing this very educational article. It was very interesting and well written. As for my dog, Peedy - as in my website www.PeedysWorld.com - while he may not detect cancer - there is no doubt that he plays a major role in my life.

You explain the dog's enhanced olfactory sense extremely well, and the pizza example is a perfect way to illustrate it.
It is just amazing that a dog can detect cancer.
What a lovely ending to your most informative essay :-) Brooke

Thanks, Brooke. I really appreciate your great review! I hope you'll feel free to use any examples of SPAG issues in it for class discussion! LOL. Warm regards, Bev

This is amazing. I have a sister who is a dog trainer and she too has mentioned this before. What I did not know was that it could be up to 99% accurate. I would forgo a Cat scan any day in preference to a dog scan. LOL. Your story flows great. It stays focused and is very informative.

Hi Bev
A great read. Very clever construction. You draw us into the story by a dog pilfering food - allowing you to introduce the dog's nose! Give us a case history with the British woman, then go a bit deeper into the medical aspects. Never dwelling too long on technical issues. Keeps the interest alive, and makes for an easy and informative read.
Top marks. A class act for this genre.

Thanks so much, Ron. I really appreciate your awesome review and the technical support. You are truly a generous man when it comes to assisting other writers on this site - I've been the recipient of that generosity with advice that's helped on many occasions. Thanks so very much for the 6. You've made my day. Warm regards, Bev

Dogs are truly amazing. Although I had heard of such things, I did not know they had been training dogs for this purpose, nor did I know about their outstanding success rate. Thanks for the info. Ray aka R. K. Alan
And yes, I have had left over pizza ripped off by my dog.

Pizza - chump change for my sister's black lab - who once ate a pot roast. Thanks so much, Ray. I really appreciate your support for my writing and your generous review. Take care, Bev

I liked your voice in this. A very serious subject stated in a non-lecturing manner.
Nits:
question mark after 'doesn't it." At the beginning. Also after 'Gil Lacey', later in the post.

I love how you started the store in a humorist way than got serious. I have hear and saw this on television I thought it was marvelous. That t dogs could sense cancer. There must be many thankful people living to day because of one sniffing dog. Boy I wish I knew where to get a a dog like that to tell me in 2006 my daughter had a brain tumor maybe she would be alive today. Thank you for sharing

WOW, Bev!! What incredible information you've given us! So well-written in a style that incorporates the facts into great little storys. Excellent article that I would think could fine a way to an editor.

Hi Bev! How exciting is this? I did see a program about this awhile back, not the show in your notes put I can't even tell you how cool this would be and you know why too. This funding has to keep coming in. I believe this works. I hadn't heard the melanoma story before and that really touched me and made me happy. I love how you wrote this and explained it so clear and interesting. I love the idea of the dogs in lab coats-would they be Labradors too? LOL! Great story worth a 6 but why don't I have any still? Great hope for the future and even now in a very natural way how much better can that be? XO Vicki

Hi, buddy. Isn't it wonderful that, once again, dogs are proving to be woman's best friend. The story on 60 minutes was from a few years ago and I was amazed how much more is being done since that story was aired. They are also training them to detect seizures, hypoglycemia and other diseases. Your beautiful, supportive words mean so much, Vicki - you are an awesome writer, so I really value your opinion! Thanks, too, for your generous offer of a virtual six. Hugs, Bev

I don't know what I'd do without my dog, she is my company and loyal friend. I might start seeing where she sniffs. Oh man now I'm setting myself up for a come back and laughing too. I hate those dogs that stick there nose where it doesn't belong. Oh see now I'm getting on a roll. On a serious note it's just almost an aha thing about the fact that dogs would be able to detect cancer, right I mean why didn't people think of it before now? No Bev I'm a struggling writer. :) XO

A struggling writer?! Who just happens to have another entry in poem of the month! I'm so proud of you, buddy. I wish you the best of luck in the voting booth. Wish I could have a dog...have too many allergies. Anywho, love ya! Bev
