You know by now how much I love the way you are writing this story. They system says I have to write three lines to allow you to receive the ranking points, so here's three lines and a little more.

Don't you just hate that? I do. Sometimes I have to babble to meet the word quota. I am so pleased you enjoyed this one.

I enjoyed your building the suspense and at the same time letting us get to know Mr. Hurley better. I also liked your description of the modern jury's expectation. I think your varying the chapter lengths is a good thing--your short ones are as effective as the long ones--it has nothing to do with length--it's all about the talented author! -Joan

Thanks. Sometimes I fear I am adding too much suspense, but isn't that what a murder mystery is all about? Glad you liked this one and my description of modern day juries.

Absolutely! Don't second guess your good instincts!! -Joan

I like Mr. Hurley; he's very human in so many respects. Most people believe in black and white, and not in-between, but I like those gray areas sometimes because answers can be found. This was an excellent read.

Thanks so much. I am pleased you liked this one. I felt it was time to portray an attorney it a realistic manner.

What do you mean, Hurley won the case? He went scott free? Why does it feel odd to me? Apart of this little doubt (perhaps I should read between the lines), this is an interesting chapter of getting to Mr. Hurley.

He may have lost the case in court (the boy was found guilty) but he felt he had won by not allowing a killer to get off. Hope that helps make sense of his statement "I won the case."

I thought so too. It depend how he sees winning ... Thanks for the clarification.

'Getting to Know Mr. Hurley' is a chapter that lets us see the attorney as a real personality and how devoted he is to justice. You've done a remarkable job of letting us see how he thinks.

This gives a very good insight into Hurley's life. I think James is learning a lot from both him and Mac. I like this new book it really is interesting.

I am pleased you like the changes I have made. I felt I needed to dig deeper into each character showing their human side.

This is my first reading of this and it interested me throughout. It may be a short chapter but sometimes this is a good thing. Plenty of informmation and allowed me to get into the story.

Now we know the connection between Mac and Mr Hurley and what brought them together so long ago. Mr Hurley thinks that James and he also have a connection because they believe in justice but also in the bending of the law to achieve it. I am glad that Mac will be there too when the letters are read, but he clearly has some news of his own to divulge. I can't wait to find out what is in the letters. xxmouse

It seems like Mr. Hurley would never be a "Perry Mason." I enjoyed the comradrie you have created in three of your characters. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words.

Well, Valerie, that sounds like a most interesting conversation coming up! I also like the back story you give Mac and Mr. Hurley :-) Brooke
