Aw, you missed the contest for this! Still, it helps us, your readers and reviewers, to learn more about you, and that was the purpose of the contest.
Good choice of picture. Like scrambled eggs I think my mind is, some days. Paint swirls work just as well.
This write is very informative - honestly, and simply you've laid it all out, so there will be no misunderstanding. And if friends are true, they will adjust to the news. It is more differences in behaviour that they have trouble with, I think. I know with my own disease I have found that to be true.
if this is your real story, you were very brave to share it. Thank you.

This is my real story and I try to be an advocate for myself and others who often can't or won't do it themselves. Thank you for your very kind review! Debbie

A well written and timely open letter. There certainly is a stigma. Not to use a cliche, but I do have friends who are mentally ill. You know, I even showed a bias. I originally wrote challenged rather than mentally ill. Regards, Bill

It took my a long time to get to the point of using the term mental illness. I thought depression sounded better, but now I am to the point of wanting to advocate for myself and others so have had to give up my own bias. Thank you so much for reading and your kind review. Debbie

Oh how I can relate to this, I have Parkinsons Disease and at 36 (when first diagnosed) my father blanked it and refused to accept I had it, whenever a family friend asked after me, he totally denied I had it, making either one of us look a liar

That is so young to be diagnosed with Parkinson's. Some family members prefer to be in denial, but it only ends up making things more traumatic. Bless you. Debbie

More advocating--Love it! I have so much mental illness in my family, it's hard for me to even recognize it in non-family members--isn't that just sad? I agree with this researched "letter" and lend my thumbs-up approval of your clarity and honesty. Wishing you more "Good" days than "Bad"....S.

Since becoming disabled, my major goal is advocacy on social injustices. Most of my days are good. Thank you so much for the kind review. Debbie

Thankyou for sharing this - and raising awareness of what mental illness really is - helping to dispel some of the fears and myths about this. You write clearly and effectively.
